Weekly Review - August 31 to September 6

CASTERTON - 31 August 2020

CAPRICCIO (3yo I Am Invincible filly) won Heat 2 on Aug 31 over 880m beating some very handy gallopers. She was ridden out and whipped but still showed good toe to be up with the older rated horses throughout the jump out. Heptagon, Mai Shiny Choice and Moor Wanted were amongst the other horses pushed out in the heat. If placed in a suitable maiden, Capriccio should be competitive, her form reads well with her only start finishing behind Peggy Selene.

WAR NA BOOL hit the line strongly alongside the 66-rated Better Harden Up in Heat 4 on Aug 31. He ran into a very smart Our Playboy on debut when 5th before a huge run second up at Warrnambool when nearly leading the whole way on a Soft7, going down narrowly to Icantoo who has since ran 6L off a Group 3 at Caulfield. He looks to have come back better and expect him to be competitive this prep in a maiden.

CRANBOURNE - 31 August 2020

LETZBEGLAM was back in good order, winning Heat 1 on Aug 31 in the quickest 800m time of the day.

Keep an eye out for the unnamed STREET BOSS x ICONIC PRINCESS coming out of the Enver Jusufovic yard in Heat 4. She ran home in 47.9 under a hold and will improve with the educational jump out.

Super jump out by the un-raced 4yo mare VERCHENOVA in Heat 7 on Aug 31. Only her first jump out back this prep after we saw her finish 2nd in a Jan 28 jump out as a 3yo. Keep an eye out for another before she debuts as she looks to be capable of being competitive on debut.

Although she was a few lengths off the winner, quite liked JEMSS in 3rd in Heat 8 on Aug 31. The 3yo filly looked well held and could’ve finished a lot closer if allowed. She was Group 3 placed as a 2yo at a massive $91 and is still a maiden as she joins the Thomas Nikolic yard in VIC. Would be keen to follow her into a maiden for the small stable.

JOEY’S GIFT came over the top of them like a good horse in Heat 9 on Aug 31 over the 800m (time only 0.11s off the quickest of the day). Failed in her first start for Busuttin & Young at Caulfield and was subsequently spelled, expect an improved prep this time in.

MANGAJET bolted in when winning Heat 12 on Aug 31 in nice time over 1000m.

KERANG - 31 August 2020

Was 2nd in a Jul 28 jump out before winning a jump out on Aug 17 (yellow silks) and winning Heat 7 on Aug 31 very comfortably. The 3yo filly NOMOREARCHIE looks like she goes alright and will definitely be worth following into her debut. Expect her to be forward and could give a sight.

CAULFIELD - 1 September 2020

EXQUISITE BEAUTY looked to move very smooth when winning Heat 4 on Sep 1 ahead of the 84-rated Fascino. After a super win on Jul 21 and a close finish on Aug 5 at Sandown, we are pretty keen to follow this 4yo mare into a bm70 first up as she looks to be quite smart and would think she features in some races in-town this spring.

CAVE HILL didn’t beat much, but ran nice time for the morning at 49.11s over the 800m in Heat 5 on Sep 1. She finished last in Aug 25 jump out but was only 1-2L off the winner and showed a lot of improvement from that jump out to this win. This is definitely a 3yo filly worst following.

Following two runners from Heat 6 on Sep 1. DR SCHULTZ was first and cruised up to the lead and through the line - was ridden out the back in a Aug 18 jump out and looks to have a maiden win in him if he takes up a forward position. The other was third, FREE WILMA who was a clear last after the jump but made up a lot of ground under next to no riding and went past the field that had gallopers ridden out. He had four jump outs in an April/May prep and was again beaten for speed but showing late speed so expect him to get back on debut but come home well. Worth following.

MORNINGTON - 2 September 2020

PIPPIE (as per usual) has won her heat in the fastest time of the morning, taking out Heat 2 on Sep 2 comfortably.

After a disappointing first up performance, TOUR DOWN UNDER has won Heat 4 on Sep 2 by a huge margin and it looked like this was due to the head gear going on… keep an eye out for him second up in a bm64 (maybe a bm58) as this was an impressive win and he’ll be fitter second up (with potentially the head gear on…)

TWIST OF FURY looked a really nice mover as she finished 2nd on the bridle in Heat 6 on Sep 2. The 3yo filly was just overran late on debut and we saw the 3rd horse from that race (Rainbiel) win well yesterday at Benalla before going to a Listed race at Morphetville that was won well by Forever Free. Only her first jump out back and this was an impressive bit of work - big watch in a mid-week maiden coming into the spring.

HICKOK ran a 4L above class benchmark last 400m on debut at a big price before tiring late second up and being subsequently spelled. He’s returned to the jump outs in good order with a Aug 20 Sandown jump out before showing that late turn of foot to win Heat 7 on Sep 2. Another maiden 3yo that would be a good prospect in a mid-week maiden.

Must also follow and put the un-raced 3yo LA CARESSE on the watchlist who also was in that Sandown jump out and finished 2nd in this heat.

Quite liked his jump outs on Aug 12 where he made up a lot of ground along with his synthetic jump outs on Aug 5 (over only 600m) and Aug 26 (very quiet out the back). These were under his breeding HEADWATER x BUKHOOR, with the now named 3yo gelding taking out Heat 10 on Sep 2 impressively. OUT TO WIN looks to be one to follow into his debut where he looks like he’ll be best as he gets over that mile distance.

Loved the win of PRETTY ROSSA in Heat 11 on Sep 2. The flashy filly sat just behind the leaders before coming up the inside in the straight to win, really extending when she was given a reminder to suggest she has some sort of turn of foot. She was a very close 2nd on Aug 12 as well as 6th on Aug 20 at Sandown and if we go back to her first couple of jump outs, she had the Governor Landy covered on May 6. She’s had plenty of education and has put in some nice work to suggest she’ll be competitive early in her career.

PAKENHAM - 2 September 2020

TYCOON RAFF jumped out well with some decent horses to win Heat 2 on Sep 2 in handy time. The field included Amelieranne, Final Man & Rushford. Tycoon Raff was the widest runner finishing down the outside showing a nice turn of foot although being pushed out. He's still a maiden and appeals on that basis.

Super jump out from the 4yo ANCESTRY when winning Heat 6 on Sep 2. He led them up to the bend and then showed his class, kicking away with ease and the jockey even having a look over his shoulder to see where the rest of them were in a jump out… has a friendly racing pattern as he’ll be on speed and looks to have returned super.

Nice return to the jump outs for SAVANNAH CLOUD in Heat 5 on Sep 2 who we highlighted prior to his debut as one to follow into the spring. His first two career runs were super and with the breeding of being by Savabeel (G1 winnner at 2000m) from an O'Reilly mare who was a G3 winner herself over 2400m while holding a nomination for the cox plate, this colt is certainly one we are keen to hopefully go towards a derby.

GEELONG - 2 September 2020

RED ROSSINI has made up a lot of ground to finish 3rd in Heat 4 on Sep 2. The 5yo mare was taken to a clear last and the widest on the track, before coming home very strongly along the outside rail. Hopefully we see a bm64 second up after a poor first up showing - she has some talent.

BENDIGO - 4 September 2020

Is ARCADIA QUEEN back to her best? Her Heat 4 win on Sep 4 was done in very stylish fashion and the 5yo mare will be looking to bounce back second up. This was a nice bit of work.

FLEMINGTON - 4 September 2020

The quickest synthetic heat was won by SPACE COWBOY, with the 4yo gelding hitting the line under a nice hold in Heat 2 on Sep 4. He has been a bit of a non-winner in his 6 career starts, but his last start form reads very well with 1st (Dane Zelek) winning a bm70 by 2.2L next start, 3rd (Gunner Get It Dunn) winning a maiden since and 4th (Princess Diva) winning by 3.2L next start. His debut win shouldn’t be far away.

Super first jump out back for SENSE OF DOUBT in Heat 5 on Sep 4 where the 4yo gelding kept extending past the line to open up more of a gap on the rest of the field. He was immediately spelled after resuming gelded but pulling up with a respiratory noise so a complete forgive run. Was 3rd to the smart Swats That and Think ’N’ Fly in an Aug 28 jump out and looks ready to resume. One to keep an eye out for as he has always looked promising.

Have loved the jump outs of PHOENIX GLOBAL. He’s clocked the quickest time of the morning when winning Heat 8 on Sep 4 with the four horses behind him having ratings of 114, 105, 111 and 109. This 5yo gelding is absolutely flying following a win on Aug 10 and a 2nd on Aug 21 and will be one to follow first up in a bm64 or bm70 as he will be very very competitive.

PIONEER RIVER took off and won Heat 13 on Sep 4 well in good time for the day following on from a Aug 14 jump out alongside some smart sprinters. The 3yo colt is travelling well ahead of his return.
