Weekly Review - January 24 to January 30

CRANBOURNE - 24 January 2022

OTHER

Thought RAINEWATER closed well into 3rd place in Heat 4 on Jan 24, moving well throughout. The 2yo colt is out of the very talented mare Our Egyptian Raine, a Group 1 winner herself, making him a half-brother to Cellsabeel (who won and was Group 3 placed as a 2YO) and some other nice siblings. It was only his first jump out, so one to keep an eye on for another bit of work.

BELLA NIPOTINA with a slick win in Heat 6 on Jan 24, a nice return from an 11-week let up for the very talented 4yo mare.

Straight to the front for DANCELITTLESISTER where she recorded a comfortable all the way win in Heat 9 on Jan 24 and held off a ridden out Pinstriped, who was a big 5.5L maiden winner himself. The 3yo filly was an easy 3L winner on debut when leading the whole way but failed second up when going into town. Immediately tipped out, she looks to have returned in nice order after a good break and can make a winning return to the races.

Super return for RIVER TWAIN, straight to the front in Heat 10 on Jan 24 and nothing else had a chance. Look for a BM78 first up, or potentially she’s one to follow second up if she drops back to BM70 level.

Another nice bit of work from O’LUCKY, backing up his Jan 10 win with another nice all the way win in Heat 14 on Jan 24 with the recent BM70 winner Vespertine the only real one to make ground late. He stepped up to 1000m and was given a push late, which will give him a good base to get back to the races on. Expect him to be prominent first up in a maiden.

GEELONG - 25 January 2022

PLAGIARIZED was not out of place in Heat 11 on Jan 25, finishing 2nd to the talented Spirit Of Gaylord and just in front of the also talented Euro Dandy, a nice effort considering he travelled wide throughout and was still able to stick on and close well. As mentioned after his Jan 10 jump out, he was a $1.8m purchase from the 2020 Magic Millions sale and looks to have some talent. It’s worth noting that D Oliver was in the saddle here so it’ll be interesting to see if he sticks on debut. Regardless, he’s one to follow and watch on debut as he looks to be travelling super and can certainly go well in a maiden.

PRINCE OF CAIRO missed the start hopelessly in his first jump out on Jan 17 and was never a chance when finishing last (ignore Racing com’s results, they have the horses mixed up), however, he did make up a bit of ground. The 2yo colt was away a little slowly but a lot better in Heat 6 on Jan 25, pushing up to take a sit one out one back before being presented 3-wide around the bend and closing super to win. We’d want to see another jump out with his starts improved, which is going to be a query on debut regardless. Nice improvement between jump outs.

We were following SPIRIT OF GAYLARD last preparation where he won a maiden first up before winning a Listed race at Flemington. There is no doubt he’s a smart colt and his return win over 1000m in Heat 11 on Jan 25 was superb. We’d be expecting him to win some nice races this coming preparation.

MORNINGTON - 27 January 2022

OTHER

LA ROCQUE went straight to the front and led from start to finish to win Heat 1 on Jan 27 in the fastest 900m time of the morning.

BAY THIRTEEN put together another nice jump out to back up his Jan 11 win, leading from start to finish in Heat 4 on Jan 27.

IMPROVIDENT has been closing really well in his jump outs as he gears up for a return to the races. He closed super from back near last in a Jan 12 Sandown jump out, finishing 3rd to the break away leaders in the undefeated Unflinching and Signal (who should’ve won on debut). He did similar in Heat 5 on Jan 27, dropping back to a clear last before coming wide around the bend and closing super despite being under no pressure. He finished 2nd on debut before a disappointing 7th where Daniel Stackhouse said his action didn’t seem right. Given more time, he looks in good order ahead of his return. One to follow, but he might need to get out in distance.

Paul Rocke’s un-named and un-raced filly, under the breeding PER INCANTO x TURF FIRE, was back at the jump outs having resumed from a spell following some nice jump outs where she really caught our eye. She finished 2nd on Aug 11 over 700m before winning a 900m jump out on Aug 25 where she had Sharwin (since 2 wins from 3 career starts) and Genuinely (since 3rd in MDN) covered. She was back in Heat 13 on Jan 27 over 700m, extremely hard held throughout as she was forced to take a sit but travelling very wide. She was given some reign to run late and showed a lovely turn of foot late before being put away. She looks to have some talent and with this being her first jump out back, we want to follow her.

FLEMINGTON - 28 January 2022

OTHER

DIVINA CALLE made a nice return, taking out Heat 4 on Jan 28 as she went to the line with Gulf Of Aden and clocked the fastest time of the morning. This backs up a solid Jan 14 jump out and she certainly has nice enough form from her first preparation as a 2YO, the latest run was a 3rd to subsequent Group 3 winner Biscayne Bay. One to follow into her resumption.

As she usually does, ADKI went straight to the front in Heat 12 on Jan 28 and led from start to finish. Look for a BM58 first up where she can be competitive.

CLYMENE beat home the talented More Secrets in a Aug 27 synthetic jump out, but she didn’t quite get to the races. Returning in Heat 14 on Jan 28 where she showed tremendous gate speed to get to a clear lead early, with that position not changing as she led from start to finish to win, albeit in slow time for the day. We saw her younger half-brother win on Thursday at Pakenham, being Merchant Prince, so there is certainly some talent in the family. Following.

HOT AND STRONG made a nice return to the jump outs, taking out Heat 15 on Jan 28 as she led from start to finish to win in nice time. She looked to do it really easily and went through the line well. The 3yo filly had a pair of jump outs back on Aug 9, up the straight behind Linas Legend and Mars Mission, and on Sep 23, where she tired late behind Narvaez and Dream Queen, but didn’t get to the races. Expect her to have another jump out prior to her debut, but she is certainly one on our watch list.
