Weekly Review - August 23 to August 29

CRANBOURNE - 23 August 2021

OTHER

SKIPPING GIRL was impressive, despite only finishing 6th in Heat 3 on Aug 23. Hard not to miss the big baldy face, with the 3yo filly dropping to the back of the field early before closing really well despite even running into some trouble. She had heaps left and was being pulled up past the line. She’s had a few jump outs in the past, but this was her first this preparation so expect to see another bit of work before the debut.

SONG OF THE NILE with a nice all the way win in Heat 7 on Aug 23, clocking a nice time in the process. The 3yo filly is with Julien Welsh for this jump out, but is actually trained by Cindy Alderson and must have made the switch to touch up her barrier manners.

MIRAGE DANCER was under a strong hold as she took out Heat 12 on Aug 23.

BALLARAT - 25 August 2021

DASHING REBEL is quite well bred. He is a full-brother to the 4yo Rogue Rocker, a handy QLD galloper with 9 starts for 4 wins including a 3YO HCP race win and a 6th in the Group 3 Winx Guineas. Their un-raced mum is a full-sister to Sailing By who was Group 2 placed and 5L off the Australian Guineas behind Palentino. The 3yo gelding was untested in an Aug 17 jump out when very hard held, but had a bit more room to move in Heat 8 on Aug 25 where he showed some talent to win quite comfortably in the end. He looks to be quite a nice mover.

OTHER

HUGHES THE BOSS a slick winner of Heat 2 on Aug 25. The 5yo gelding was 2nd in a BM58 first up last preparation, having three nice BM58 runs for a 2nd, 2nd and 3rd. Expect a BM58 first up and might be worth something at odds.

Massive win by VILLA SARCHI in Heat 3 on Aug 25, clocking slick time in the process as he led from start to finish. Goes well first up (5 : 2-0-1) and expect him to pop up in a country maiden having switched over to George Osborne form Busuttin & Young. Another that could pop up at a big price, potentially in a BM64 but most likely a BM70.

Chasing the 69-rated Elite Drake and coming over the top for a nice win in Heat 10 on Aug 25 was the un-raced CHORIZAMA, a nice bit of work for the 3yo gelding’s first jump out. On the watch list.

The win by ARLANDRIA in Heat 11 on Aug 25 was effortless, the lightly raced 5yo mare pushing forward after being hard held early and just cruising to the line in an easy win. She looked to maybe overdo it a bit early, but she was untouched in an Aug 17 jump out as well and might just be one we have to keep in mind when first up for the new stable.

MORNINGTON - 25 August 2021

The filly under the breeding, PER INCANTO x TURF FIRE, led them up in a 700m Aug 11 jump out but was overran late. Stepping up to 900m in Heat 7 on Aug 25, she again went to the front to take up a clear lead, dropped back a little to the pack as they went around the corner but then she really responded and showed some fight and a great kick to hold off the challengers and win. This is the response to pressure you really want to see but don’t often get to see in jump outs due to the minimal pressure. Her mum Turf Fire (NZ) had 5 career starts for 0 wins and 5 placings, including a Group 3 placing. She looks like she might have a little talent and is a nice mover. Must follow here.

We really liked LA ZUCCA prior to her debut, but she was just overran by Huskisson after leading throughout. In her return in Heat 8 on Aug 25 over 900m, she didn’t lead them up but instead sat wide at the end of the field before finding the gaps in the straight and really powering to the line with a bit in hand. This is only her first jump out back, but certainly think she has a maiden win in her as a 4yo. Want to follow her very closely.

OTHER

KIPKETER’s finish to get up and win Heat 2 on Aug 25 was super, clocking the fastest time of the morning in the process. Won a BM64 first up last preparation over 1400m.

SHIELDED has some nice form his last preparation, especially his last two starts. He was 2nd to Chica Fuerte (who went on to win multiple Group 3’s) before breaking his maiden ahead of New Choice (whose next 4 starts read 2nd, 1st, 1st and 1st) and Out To Win (who won 2 of his next 3 starts). His win in Heat 4 on Aug 25 was super after having a luckless trial out the back on Aug 9. Looks to have returned in real nice order.

DELICIOUS TYCOON was smashed in betting first up ($2.70 SP), but ran really poorly. Immediately spelled, her return Aug 9 trial was also only fair but her jump out in Heat 5 on Aug 25 (black) was super as she closed from the back to finish 2nd. Not sure what to make of her work but she clearly goes alright when she’s up and going. One to watch for.

The winner of Heat 5 on Aug 25 (purple), MISS MIDDLE PARK, was a $220k purchase that looks to go alright. Well held in a Aug 11 jump out as well, she might have something under the hood the she just hasn’t fully shown yet. Being very mindful of her when she debuts.

RANVEER a smart 700m win in Heat 9 on Aug 25. Expect him to feature in some nice races this spring.

BARONESSA was very heavily backed to win both her starts in her debut preparation, going down at $1.45 and $2.70. In her return, she clocked the fastest 700m time of the morning with a nice win in Heat 10 on Aug 25. Treading carefully, but nice win.

SALE - 26 August 2021

OTHER

We’ll follow JUICE BOX if she’s huge odds on debut, having won two jump outs now including Heat 5 on Aug 26 ahead of Night Eruption, who was fresh off a 4th in a MDN at $61), where she clocked a time that was above the average. Not a stack of confidence but she can’t do much more than win the jump outs before her debut. Again, one at a big price to spec.

FLEMINGTON - 27 August 2021

JOSEYLIN backed up her super Aug 20 (red) synthetic win with a very easy win in Heat 9 on Aug 27 (white). She had a pair of jump out wins back in April but didn’t get to the races, potentially being saved for the spring? She’s led all of her jump outs and expect that to be no different when she goes back to the races, where she looks like she’ll be very competitive - travelling super.

OTHER

GREENLANE (orange) is a $520k half-sister to the impressive 4yo Maybe The Best, finishing 2nd in Heat 2 on Aug 27 to Frostin’. Jump outs haven’t been super, but have been good and she’s certainly worth noting.

FINANCE TYCOON clocked the clear fastest time of the morning with an all the way win in Heat 5 on Aug 27, defeating The Astrologist. Looked like the blinkers went on here after a quieter Aug 9 without the blinkers. He looks in super order ahead of his return.

Of the three that crossed the line together in Heat 8 on Aug 27, the maiden SUPER THIEF (white) didn’t look out of place alongside the more experienced Zou Dancer and Maybe The Best. Had a quiet synthetic jump out on Aug 20 and looks to be travelling well ahead of her return as a 3yo.
