BlackBook - Sunday, 16 May 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Sunday, 16 May 2021.The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting.

BENDIGO - RACE 1

#6 MAC 'N' CHEESE (9) - T & C McEvoy

Very hard to not get excited here. The half-sister to Exceedence and recently Oxley Road was a smart winner of Heat 3 on May 3 (orange and purple), MAC ’N’ CHEESE. Her first Apr 19 jump out saw her drop to last, travel wide throughout and then hit the line under a super strong hold to finish 3rd. This jump out was much of the same, settling last but then working into it slowly before making a run down the middle of the track and being way too classy late. A $300k Gold Coast yearling purchase with this sort of breeding to add to some super jump outs, she’s an exciting 2yo talent for the McEvoy yard.

BENDIGO - RACE 2

OTHER

Clearly something went wrong in her Apr 20 official trial (lost by 39.7L), with #10 VERA’S DIAMOND putting in a much improved performance to win Heat 15 over 1000m very comfortably. She was given a rev up late but was too good.

CASTERTON - RACE 6

OTHER

Of the first three across the line in Heat 6, only one of them isn’t 100-rated being the un-raced 4yo mare #9 WINTER PINTER (blue, white and red) with the other two being Reykjavik (1st) and Great Again (2nd). She had a pair of jump outs in Dec/Jan but was tipped out, returning in this heat to lead throughout and only just get overran late by far superior gallopers. We’ll be watching for another jump out, this was an encouraging bit of work.

CASTERTON - RACE 10

OTHER

#1 PERONNE jumped beautifully to lead and then was under a very strong hold in Heat 8 (pink), only managing to finish 5th as a result. Think he could’ve won this and won easily if allowed to run. The 5yo import has been very disappointing in his AUS campaigns, finishing dead last in all three runs including a more recent 12th (last) at the end of April. He only had one jump out ahead of that run at 1400m, so hopefully we see him improve second up.
