BlackBook - Saturday, 26 June 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Saturday, 26 June 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting.

CAULFIELD - Race 1

OTHER

The smart 2yo colt, #2 JIGSAW was a class above in Heat 1 when winning comfortably. Time was around the average mark for the day.

#2 JIGSAW took a sit behind the speed in Heat 1 on Jun 15 before getting a gap along the inside to come up along the rail and win. Defeated ROCK ARTIST (2nd) with a huge (!) gap to 3rd.

CAULFIELD - Race 2

#16 HAI SUN (7) - M Freedman

Was a fan of HAI SUN throughout her first preparation, but she couldn’t quite get the maiden out of the way despite having three nice runs when finishing 4th, 2nd and 3rd. Returning to win Heat 9 on Jun 2 (green), this filly looks will be looking to get that maiden out of the way. In this jump out, she sat in behind the leaders before getting a nice easy run up the rail. Expect her to have another jump out before resuming.

Disappointed that she's going to a HCP race in town rather than a maiden first up.

OTHER

Have no doubt that VERANSKOVA will win some races. She jumped out super prior to her debut, but debuted in a BM70 at a Saturday Pakenham meeting where she still managed to finish 2nd to Written Miss (who won a BM70 at Flemington next start) while gapping 3rd by 2.5L. She was put away, returning in Heat 8 on May 24 (white with blue sleeves) in very impressive fashion. She was taken to the back but was way too good late, cruising past the field out wide under a hold to win with ease. She looked like she had a lot more to give late and this was the fastest 800m heat of the morning. She looks to be a really nice filly.

Won well first up off only one jump out. Plenty of improvement to come and the win rated well - barrier 16 here is a worry.

ECHUCA - Race 2

#9 JOURNALESE (5) - M Price & M Kent Jnr

JOURNALESE was way too good when winning Heat 13 on Jun 16 by 4L in nice time. Following on from her May 24 jump out when 2nd to a ridden out Don’t Forget Dad (since 5th MDN), she didn’t give anything a chance here as she jumped well to take up the lead from the inside and then kicked away around the bend. Those behind her were given a bit more of a push but weren’t making up any ground, so she seemed to have a bit more to give late. Can win a maiden first up.

ECHUCA - Race 3

OTHER

#5 BABA VANGA was poor first up but was returned to the jump outs to be a nice winner of Heat 8 on Jun 16. She’s becoming a jump out specialist, so treading carefully second up - want $10+ and only a small bet if so.

ECHUCA - Race 5

#5 WILGA HILL (5) - K Hann

WILGA HILL has a fair turn of foot. Jumping out under his breeding (FOXWEDGE x LUCKY KITTY), he displayed this turn of foot in a May 11 (2nd) and on May 28 over 1000m when he was pushed but opened a gap on the field late when leading. He jumped the clear best of Heat 3 on Jun 16, but was restrained to take a sit behind the speed. Given a push as they entered the straight, he didn’t have much room for a bit but once he got clear, he really let go and attacked the line hard to just miss. Liked his turn of foot.

ECHUCA - Race 7

OTHER

#4 THE PRES was a class above, winning Heat 12 on Jun 21. He had a prep with Kevin Corstens, very unsuccessful though with his best finish being a 6.8L 6th in four starts. Now back with Busuttin and only 57-rated, he’d be a good bet in a BM58 (even a BM64) considering he was only 2.6L off a Listed race at Flemington in October 2020 before starting $8 in a Group 3. Keep an eye on him resuming for the new stable.
