BlackBook - Saturday, 12 February 2022

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Saturday, 12 February 2022. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. Our figures and benchmark ratings are from PuntingForm.

CAULFIELD - Race 2

OTHER

We were following #2 SPIRIT OF GAYLARD last preparation where he won a maiden first up before winning a Listed race at Flemington. There is no doubt he’s a smart colt and his return win over 1000m in Heat 11 on Jan 25 was superb. We’d be expecting him to win some nice races this coming preparation.

CAULFIELD - Race 3

OTHER

#5 JACQUINOT looks to have the Blue Diamond at his mercy, with most of the other major players suffering defeats recently (such as Philosopher and Ebhaar). He travelled wide throughout Heat 2 on Feb 1 before really extending away over the final ~200m as he was pushed out, recording a dominant 5L win. Lovely jump out.

Impressive by the 2yo son of Pariah, #9 CROWNING MOMENT. Following his 600m jump out back on Jan 19 where he was 2nd when leading and quietly ridden, the gelding did similar in Heat 12 on Feb 2 where stepped up to 750m, led and was very quietly ridden but was able to kick away late and win quite comfortably. This is his second career preparation and his first preparation was a bit of a mixed bag - he was a disappointing last in his first career jump out over 600m on Sep 15, but bounced back with a dominant win over 600m on the synthetic track at Pakenham on Oct 6 before failing again on Oct 13 where he faded late over the 750m. He looks to have returned well but we’re hoping to see one more jump out over a bit more distance prior to the debut.

CAULFIELD - Race 4

OTHER

Not winning on debut really hurt, but it was nice to see #8 ENGLISH RIVIERA back at the jump outs and looking classy as she took out Heat 10 on Feb 3 in the fourth fastest of 11 heats on the morning where she led and was well held without ever being asked for an effort against the older horses. She’s clearly a 2yo filly with talent so keep an eye on her second up.

#15 SEIRYU was eased out late in a Jan 28 jump out, dissimilar to her jump out in Heat 7 on Feb 4 where she won in nice style but clocked a slow time in the process. She was a $220k purchase from the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling sales and holds a Blue Diamond nomination, so the Hawkes team clearly have a high enough opinion of her. She might make her debut in the Fillies Blue Diamond Prelude next Saturday.

OUR BETS

As a rule of thumb, our new 'units' system will be based on the following staking plan:

  • 0.25 units is a speculation ('spec') bet at a bigger price.

  • 0.50 units to 1.00 units is a low confidence bet.

  • 1.00 units to 2.00 units is a medium confidence bet.

  • 2.00 units to 3.00 units is a high confidence bet.

  • 5.00 units is the maximum bet and is a 'special', or a very high confidence bet.

In addition, we'll put more of an emphasis on our highlighted runners (medium to high confidence bets) and lower bets on our 'Other' runners (low confidence). This is because the highlighted runners are striking at much more favourable 31% WIN & 62% PLC since August 2020 for 600+ runners.

We recommend you have a TAB, TopSport (click here), Bet365 and Betfair account.

No plays. Total outlay is 0.00 units.

Overall (since 21 Oct, 2021): +7.99 units at Recommend Price | +45.27 units at Betfair SP

PURCHASE - JUSTIFY x NOW NOW FILLY

Some exciting news for us - we have purchase a % of this Justify filly from the Magic Millions 2022 sales. She was a $400k buy and will be trained by Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace while she is majority owned by Coolmore... so very exciting!

She is eligible for Coolmore's Ferrari bonus (read here) and is a half-sister to Group 2&3 winner and Group 1 runner-up in FIESTA, who also earnt over $1.5m in prize money. Here's hoping this filly is just as fast - she certainly has the looks!

We will be posting the trainer updates to our members as we receive them so that you get a taste of ownership without having to pay any of the purchase price or ongoing trainer fees - some extra excitement for our members for no cost. She'll head off to the breakers and hopefully she's gets to the race track as a 2YO! She is still at least 6 months away from even being eligible to race so stay tuned...

UPDATE (27 Jan, 2022): she is currently getting broken in at Coolmore's breaking-in program.
