Weekly Review - September 20 to September 26
CRANBOURNE - 20 September 2021
Keen on PINSTRIPED. He featured in our reviews under his breeding Street Boss x Snitzel Blitz, but the 3yo colt now has a name and another impressive jump out win to add to his form. He won Heat 5 on Sep 20 in the fastest time of morning to back up his Aug 23 and Sep 6 wins, this heat the most impressive of the three as he went to the line and defeated Hungry Heart’s little brother Duty Dynasty, a 3yo colt who already has a win to his name and some residual race fitness coming off only a 10 week let up. Confident he will run a big race on debut.
OUT OF ISOLATION was 2nd to Aidensfield in a 2YO Handicap on debut back in May 2020. He gapped National Choice in 3rd that day by 2L, with that runner going on to place at Group 3 level while Highly Discreet was 3L back in 4th and was Group 3 placed at her next start. A long spell for this now-4yo though, returning to finish 3rd in Heat 6 on Sep 20 in a very impressive bit of work. He jumped cleanly but was taken back and ridden quiet, coming up the inside in the straight and hitting the line under no jockey pressure at all. He looked a class above this lot, even with the heat being the second quickest of the morning. Expect to see another bit of work considering the 71-week spell, but super keen to follow him into his resumption.
After finishing 2nd on Sep 6, RICK’S CAFE stepped out again over 1000m in Heat 16 on Sep 20 and won well in the fastest time of the day, going to the line alongside the more experienced Mr Tipla and in front of some other better than maiden grade horses. The 6yo mare is very lightly raced, having only had the 2 starts back in 2020 when with K Hann but has made the stable switch now and think she is one to watch first up in a country maiden. Expecting a good price too so we can have a spec. Jumping out well enough to suggest she can be competitive.

While all eyes were on Pinstriped and Duty Dynasty in Heat 5 on Sep 20, thought THE HASS was another one that travelled quietly and comfortably throughout. The 3yo colt was 5th in a Sep 6 jump out, but was well held on the inside and looked to move alright. Likewise here, he travelled well when finishing 3rd and probably would’ve won any other heat on the day considering the time they clocked. One to keep in mind.
There were a few you could follow from Heat 7 on Sep 20. EXOEXO (1st), JENNIFERWISH (3rd), TOMMY BEAR (4th) and PUTSCH (5th) all looked like they could move alright. Will put them on the watch list as they weren’t stand outs but still not bad bits of work.
Hard to ignore the win of MESA BELLA in Heat 11 on Sep 20 in her first jump out. Extended away nicely late to win well in nice time for the morning. She’s a full sister to Socialising who won a HCP race in QLD. One for the watch list, expecting another bit of work first.
FACE THE JURY jumped out well prior to debut and probably was only fair when 5th. Given a freshen up, she jumped out in Heat 14 on Sep 20 with a huge win in slick time, noting that she did have the race fitness and was listed under Julien Welsh so potentially has some barrier issues. Regardless, an encouraging bit of work between runs and could be one to follow second up at hopefully a nice price.
Cindy Alderson’s runner EUROZONE x VIENNESE BEAUTY flashed home late in Heat 17 on Sep 20 over the 1000m, enough to catch the eye. He was 2nd to Pinstriped in the Sep 6 jump out where they gapped 3rd, so think he’s worth keeping an eye on.
TATURA - 20 September 2021
HORSE IN ROCK caught our eye when 2nd on Sep 10 and certainly caught our eye when he went straight to the front in Heat 5 on Sep 20, holding on for a pretty comfortable win in the second fastest time of the morning. He was given a couple of reminders throughout, but overall a nice bit of work. It looked as though he had the blinkers off for this, despite having them on in his Flemington jump out - keep an eye out for them on debut as they could spark a little more improvement in him. Happy to follow on the back of his work, three jump outs should have him ready to go on debut.
OTHER
The 2yo colt INSTABILITY went straight to the front and won Heat 4 on Sep 20 impressively in the fastest time of the morning. It was his third jump out, but he’s shown some nice improvement and this was a nice win over 850m.
Want to follow TOROLINA, who finished 3rd in Heat 4 on Sep 20. The 3yo filly was away slowly, dropping back to last but gathered speed to pick up along the rail and went to the line casually untouched. Thought she closed well and if she didn’t miss the kick, she would’ve gone close to winning this heat which was the fastest of the morning. Could be a sneaky at big odds.
MIGHTY HERCULES is another from Heat 4 on Sep 20 that is worth putting on the watch list. Won a Jul 6 jump out when hard held on a heavy track. Given a let up, the 3yo colt was again hard as he went to line with no urgency (but still well) to finish 2nd. Nice bit of work in his return, hoping to see another but of work to get a real gauge.
CAULFIELD - 21 September 2021
This was a huge win by BAEKDU in Heat 3 on Sep 21 (yellow). Following her slick Sep 15 jump out, she was clearly a class above the field here as she won the heat by some 10L in the fastest time of the morning, handling the Heavy(10) track easily. As mentioned previously, she had a pair of jump outs in May, the most impressive a May 18 win alongside Cardinal Gem who then came out and finished 2nd in a MDN and then won second up. Following her into her debut.
OTHER
Third jump out now for EXTREME WARRIOR, going to the line with (and a lot better than) Sudoko in Heat 1 on Sep 21. If he pops up in a mid-week maiden, confident he’ll run extremely well.
ARARAT - 21 September 2021
WHITE STILETTOS another nice jump out win in Heat 4 on Sep 21. She led them up and was held together until the 200m mark where she was given a push for 100m or so and looked to respond well. Looks to have come back improved as a 3yo and this was another bit of work. Expect her to go well first up this prep.
Really good jump out in Heat 6 on Sep 21 from TRUE NOBILITY. The 3yo gelding was away okay but didn’t quite have the early speed, dropping back to near last and a good 5-6L off the leader, travelling under a strong hold out the back of the pack. In the straight is where he did his best work though, closing superbly as he weaved through the field to finish within 1L of the winner despite never been asked to fully extend - it looked as though he was in front past the line. Immediately spelled after a disappointing debut as a 2yo back in May, he looks to have come back in really nice order as a 3yo.
Big fan of SPIRIT OF GAYLARD, even more so his huge win in Heat 10 on Sep 21 over the 1000m. He was away well but elected to drop to the clear back of the field and take a sit. He was then given a push in the straight and would’ve made up close to 8L or so to come over the top of the leaders and win in slick time. This was a massive win. Super keen to follow him first up, he’s a talented colt.
OTHER
LOUISE FRANCES was the pick of Heat 1 on Sep 21, crossing the line first with 2nd pushed out chasing and a nice gap back to 3rd. It was this 4yo mare’s first jump out back this preparation, sitting on speed throughout and hitting the line untested. Happy to follow her into another bit of work before debuting.
Very easy win for SAVATOXL in Heat 2 on Sep 21, clocking the clear fastest time of the morning by almost 2 seconds.
Liked the way HAUTEUR closed off in Heat 8 on Sep 21 despite not winning, travelling comfortably throughout without ever being asked for an effort. A $150k MM Yearling purchase, she’s worth chucking on the watch list for another jump out.
Liked the way DANDY CLASSIC moved and travelled in Heat 13 on Sep 21, this time over 1000m following his big 850m win a few weeks ago. He travelled extremely wide throughout here but still hit the line well under a hold. Happy to following this 4yo mare into her first up run.
MORNINGTON - 22 September 2021
SHARWIN has been scratched multiple times over the past week or so, returning to the jump outs in Heat 6 on Sep 22 to tick the legs over and she’s absolutely bolted in by a massive margin. She jumped straight to the front here with super gate speed and gave nothing else a chance, leading from start to finish. We didn’t have her as a Blackbook this prep after Aug 11 and Aug 25 jump outs (until now), but did have her down after Apr 1 and Apr 16 jump out. She now looks primed for a debut and we’e keen to follow her into the run.
THINK JADE was the pick of his Sep 13 jump out and the clear pick of Heat 9 on Sep 22. He was again beaten for speed early when dropping back to last but then coming around the field and bolting in by close to 10L. He didn’t do much in his first prep, but he couldn’t have been more impressive in his trials and jump outs ahead of his return. Potentially might need to get over 1400m, so we’ll follow him into his first up run and certainly follow him second up if he doesn’t break the maiden. Super bit of work here.
KYNETON - 22 September 2021
OTHER
MR SATELLITE is going to be one at huge odds that might be worth a spec. Won a Sep 15 Wangaratta jump out well, albeit beating nothing with any form before winning Heat 5 on Sep 22 quite comfortably ahead of Aphotic (who has 4 career wins) and gapping 3rd. Low confidence, but will be a big price first up.
FLEMINGTON (2YO) - 23 September 2021
As a guide, Contemporary’s jump out last Wednesday up the straight was ran in 48.01s, since running 2nd in the Darley Spring Preview. The other two heats that day were 49.02s and 49.63s.
We mentioned that we love ROBUSTO’s jump out that day on Sep 14 (49.02s), the colt not running in the Darley Spring Preview and instead jumping out again with a win in Heat 1 on Sep 23 in 49.04s. He did much of the same here, sitting in behind the speed before peeling out and showing that super closing speed to get over the top of the leaders to win narrowly. He looks smart - keen to follow.
GALVANIC beat Contemporary in the Sep 14 but could only manage 4th in Heat 1 on Sep 23 and wasn’t quite as impressive but was only quietly ridden.
Didn’t think there was a clear standout in Heat 2 on Sep 23, won in 49.96s.
FLEMINGTON - 23 September 2021

ZARINA BAY faded late in a Sep 8 but didn’t have the blinkers on. She’s clearly a better horse with the blinkers on, leading all the way in Heat 4 on Sep 23 to win ahead of Sweet Sixteen albeit in slowish time for the day. She had the one run as a 2YO but was put away after to return with these two jump outs. Not a standout, but nice bits of work.
Extremely good jump out by AMERICAIN ANGEL in Heat 8 on Sep 23, she’s got a super turn of foot - was closing late on Sep 10 as well as here, where she dropped to last and then flew around the outside to win. She goes well.
There was something about the way WHYWHYWHYDELILAH moved in Heat 8 on Sep 23 that caught the eye. The un-raced 3yo filly finished alongside better than maiden grade gallopers and looked to have a nice action about her. She won a Sep 17 synthetic jump out prior to this. Think she’s one to keep in mind.
Nice all the way win for CIRRINA in Heat 10 on Sep 23 following a quiet Sep 10 jump out without the blinkers on. The time of this heat was on the slow side for the day, but she did it easy enough.
INEBRIATING had the one jump out prior to resuming, it was up the straight on Aug 9 and she beat home Excelida (since won BM70) and Treporti (since 3rd and 2nd in MDN’s) quite easily that day. She resumed at Morphetville and was poor, finishing 4th by 4.3L after sitting on speed from barrier 1. Back to the jump outs, she won Heat 12 on Sep 23 quite comfortably. She needs to improve, but this second up run with the jump out in between is worth following her into.
KENSINGTON (2YO) - 20 September 2021

Heat 1 - KIBOU was ridden aggressively to get to the front and didn’t give anything else a chance, winning comfortably.
Heat 2 - Quickest of the day but because the heats were all so close together, time wasn’t so important. WILD BOTANICA (1st) was the pick of the heat with OKAMI MISS (2nd) making some slight ground late where they cleared out 4th. All of the first three across the line were ridden out and pushed.
Heat 3 - ONE REASON was well over 5L off them approaching the turn and closed super to finish 3rd by less than 1.5L - was ridden out but closed well. The winner PSYCHIATRIST was a $1m purchase, bit green and laid in but was only given a push from the 300m to the 100m and responded well.
Heat 4 - COOLANGATTA one of the pick’s of the day - sat 1 out, 1 back and travelled beautifully throughout. Was given a tickle at the 350m mark and went bang, straight to the front and was an absolute class above. Not even asked for an effort. Very impressive. Half-sister to Snitzonfire, who’s 1 start for 1 win.
Heat 5 - Loved the work of VICTORY MOMENTS, another one of the pick’s of the day. Think he has some sort of turn of foot. Had the benefit of another trial on Sep 6 on the Gold Coast where he beat WILD BOTANICA (winner of Heat 2) - he sat 2L off the leader on the fence there and then exploded to the front once he got the gap in the straight to win by over 1L. Here was similar - he went forward and got trapped wide, forced to drop back and try take a sit but then came wide around the turn, ridden out and exploded to the front to win comfortably. He really attacks the line - fastest L600m of the day too.
Heat 6 - DEEP EXPECTATION and MUMBAI JEWEL the two to take from this heat but they didn’t quite do it in the style of the others.
Heat 7 - RESONATOR went straight to the front and held on well. He was pushed, but so was the rest of the field - looked pretty professional in the win. His mum Dejavu Rock had a nice 2YO record (5-2:1:2).
Heat 8 - DRISANA drifted back to last shortly after the jump before coming down the middle fo the track. She was ridden out to close and make up a good 4L or so in the final 400m. Closed impressively - nice bit of work.
Heat 9 - GENGHIS KHAN ran on really well. He sat just off the leaders throughout before peeling off their backs down the middle of the track. The jockey sat quiet until the 200m mark when he was then ridden out and looked to go alright but wasn’t exactly pulling away from SEJARDAN (who was really ridden in the straight) late.
OTHER NSW
ARMOUR FORCE - R & M Freedman
Sep 24 (Randwick) - super trial despite the slow overall time - sat 3 to 4 wide throughout with cover before peeling out in the straight and coming home really well over the top to win by ~2L - he has a really nice turn of foot - did he have the blinkers on? check for gear changes when he resumes.
POIGNANT - P & P Snowden
Sep 24 (Randwick) - super, huge fan of this 4yo mare - second fastest trial of the day behind Classique Legend - sat on speed and then exploded to front at top straight to win by several lengths - clear class above - if she goes to a MDN first up, would be surprised if she loses.
