Weekly Review - October 25 to October 31

CRANBOURNE - 25 October 2021

We were following SKIPPING GIRL into her debut after some nice jump outs and she should’ve won. She had no luck, held up and only went down by 1.2L at a very nice $14 with the run rating +9.2 on PuntingForm. Back to the jump outs in between runs, she was way too classy for them in Heat 7 on Oct 25 getting up along the inside to win, albeit in slow time for the day. She’ll pop up in a maiden second up and would think she’d be hard to beat, hopefully opening up at a nice price. She’s better than maiden grade.

BIG ME goes well. He only just won a jump out on Oct 11 on a very wet track but it was his slick win along the rail in Heat 11 on Oct 25 that has really caught the eye. He showed nice gate speed to kick up and lead, holding the rail throughout and hitting the line under his own steam but clearly having a bit on the rest of the field, winning in the fourth fastest 800m time of the morning. He moved well here, recording a nice win in slick time and looks to be above maiden grade. Keen to follow him into his debut.

OTHER

Very good win by XTRA GEAR coming off the 5-week let up after finishing 7th in a Group 2 at Caulfield, coming from near last under no jockey pressure in Heat 5 on Oct 25 to get up and win in the final strides. Interested to see if she goes back to town for another throw at the stumps or if they look for a BM64 and work her through the grades.

Keep an eye on OUR DESTRIER if he pops up in a BM58 first up. He was a very slick winner of Heat 4 on Oct 25 in really nice time, backing up a 2nd in a jump out on Oct 12 behind subsequent 3.2L MDN winner I Am News. He was gelded last preparation, winning his first two runs as a gelding before failing in his first attempt at 2000m and then failing in a BM64 at Sandown but potentially coming to the end of his preparation there. Really nice 1000m jump out here though and a BM58 is certainly a class of race he can go well in.

ST ARNAUD - 25 October 2021

SISTINE EXPLORER won’t be a maiden for long, based on form and her return jump out win in Heat 8 on Oct 25. She has some really nice form on the board too, with a debut 2nd at Geelong and a 4th up the straight at Flemington where she was only 3.5L off Argentia and only 1.25L off Invincible Caviar. That sort of form will hold up in almost any maiden and her win in this jump out shows she’s come back in super order, leading from start to finish under a strong hold with the most impressive bit of the trail the final 50m or so where she pulled away despite those around her being pushed out. Past the line, she was in front by a massive margin! She’s talented, keen to follow into her resumption.

OTHER

Beaten by a combined 1.3L in three career starts (when all 2nd), KASAMI returned with a nice jump out in Heat 4 on Oct 25. She travelled on speed under a hold, cruising to the line under her own steam and holding her own throughout along the inside. She has good enough form to be very competitive first, having beat home The Garden first up last preparation and a bunch of other subsequent winners. One to follow.

Heat 7 saw five horses go to the line together and another three only 1-2L behind them. Be careful not to read too much into this as the time was the slowest of the day and almost 2s slower than the day’s average, so it’s certainly no surprise to see them all bunched up!

Seen enough from DEEP POINT in his three jump outs now to suggest he can go alright as an early 2yo. He showed nice gate speed from the inside in Heat 9 on Oct 25 to lead and was strong late, holding off some older 3yo’s in the process, even without being put under a real lot of pressure. Time was above average for the day too. Nice win.

Heat 10 on Oct 25 was a nice heat for a couple, SAN MARINO winning under a ridiculously strong hold ahead of Intellective with LONGTIMEDREAMING under a nice hold in 3rd and Pal D’Oro in 4th. This heat was the fourth quickest of the morning.

Arrogant look between the legs from the jockey of GREEK TYCOON in the straight of Heat 11 on Oct 25 after he led from start to finish and won quite comfortably. This follows an Oct 11 jump out behind subsequent MDN winner Moon And Back and ahead of Charing Ahead, noting that he didn’t have the blinkers on in this jump out. He didn’t break the clock, but still a nice win.

CAULFIELD - 26 October 2021

Loved the work of AQUAPISHE in Heat 6 on Oct 26, returning as a gelding here following a close debut 3rd at The Valley as a 2yo. The 3yo was ridden with no urgency out of the gates, dropped back to last and went through the motions as he was a good 5-6L off the leaders. In the final stages of the jump out though, he just cruised up under his own steam to the leading pack out out and came over the top, in front past the line and clearly travelling the best of this field. He could’ve easily won this jump out if he was put under even the slightest bit of pressure. Super bit of work in his return.

MORNINGTON - 27 October 2021

Godolphin obviously had an opinion of GUARDIAN SPIRIT prior to his debut, his latest run being in the Group 2 Sires’ Produce Stakes after finishing 4th on debut behind some runners with nice subsequent form including Sandy Prince (2nd) and Forgot You (3rd). Spelled since, he returned with a nice Oct 20 jump out before closing very impressively in Heat 5 on Oct 27 out wide where he was quite comfortably in front past the line. Loved the way he responded to some urgings in the straight and really extended, making up ground quickly and hitting the line hard. Can follow him into his first up run in his second career preparation.

OTHER STARLIGHT SCOPE has returned in nice order, winning a Oct 13 impressively and backing that up with a hard held 2nd in Heat 2 on Oct 27. She jumped clearly the best and was an easy 1L in front immediately after jumping but was heavily restrained to drop back to the field, leading throughout and only just going down on the line to a hard ridden Fast And Fruious. Slick bit of work, she can make a winning return the the races.

Another nice jump out for WOLF SKILL to back up last weeks Oct 20 jump out, closing well late in Heat 4 on Oct 27 after being slowly away to sit at the back of field throughout and then close well late when asked for an effort with the jump out ran in slick time for the day.

GEELONG - 27 October 2021

OTHER

Another quiet but nice jump out from ADMIRALS AHOY, ridden with no urgency from the gates in Heat 3 on Oct 27 to cruise out the back before closing well without ever being asked and then being eased down. There will be some trust that he’s right to go on debut, as his jump outs have been very quiet but we’re keen to follow him and be with on debut (pending where and price of course).

TREPORTI has had the two runs this preparation being 3rd to Invincible Caviar and Xtra Gear (gapping 4th by 1.5L that day) and 2nd to Obfuscation with super form coming from the race including 3rd (Cerberus) coming out and winning a Listed race at Morphetville, 4th (Kwoi Hoi) since winning MDN by 4L and 6th (Balsamic Vinegar) since winning. He has had an 8-week freshen up because of a key change in him becoming a gelding, jumping out in Heat 5 on Oct 27 to tick the legs over before resuming as a gelding and expect him to be very hard to beat regardless of what maiden he resumes in.

FLEMINGTON - 29 October 2021

Cancelled due to the severe weather.

OTHER NSW

CARARTIE - John O'Shea

Oct 29 (Randwick) - this was a huge run and win - jumped from widest barrier and was taken to last, sitting at the back and cruising before making her move around the bend and down the outside in the straight, showing an impressive turn of foot to go over the top and win - she looked to be a class above this lot - 1045m trial here, might be best over a bit further this upcoming preparation.
