Weekly Review - November 9 to November 15
CRANBOURNE - 9 November 2020
Impressive bit of work by the 3yo ARROANCE in Heat 4 on Nov 9, winning by several lengths after sitting on speed early before kicking away late. A full-sister to ARROGANT MISS who has 6 wins in 13 career starts, this filly looks to have a bit of toe so certainly keeping an eye out for a second jump out.
Blackbooked ROSERADE (NZ) after a trio of jump outs back as a 2yo including a 4th on Apr 6, a win on Apr 20 and a 3rd on May 4. He was then spelled before returning for a pair of nice jump outs on Aug 31 and Sep 14. Again spelled, the un-raced son of REAL IMPACT returned in Heat 8 on Nov 10 (pink) to finish 2nd in between a pair of Robbie Griffiths runners, both of whom are maidens but have been thereabouts in their career. Though this gelding travelled nicely for his first jump out back and is certainly one worth putting on the watch list.
QUINTELLO (IRE) was only overran by stalemate EXPLOSIVE JACK in the final 50m or so in Heat 14 (green & blue sleeves) on Nov 9 after travelling super throughout. She’s had a couple of jump outs over shorter distances including Sep 22 (yellow) over 850m and Oct 7 (green) when 3rd to CHEER FOR ME (since 1st MDN) and DIAQUIN with PLAYOFFS (since 3rd BM64) a close 4th. Clearly those distances were short of her best and expect to see the 4yo mare better over further, she’s one worth following.
ARARAT - 9 November 2020
Time was on the slow side, but CRACKERJACK LADY extended away really nice in Heat 3 on Nov 9 (green) to win by several lengths, albeit against other maiden horses. She’s lightly raced, with only 5 career starts as a 4yo. First up last preparation she was 3L off NIGHT PASSAGE so she might be one to watch first up this coming prep.
MARK’S LINE was extremely slow away in Heat 9 on Nov 9 (light green), and we mean really slow - would’ve been 10+L off the leaders. The 3yo colt then somehow managed to make up this ground to finish 4th by only 2-3L and was never really ridden with much vigour. Not to mention the three horses that beat him were Ken’s Dream, Delusions and The Mobot and he beat home Aurora’s Symphony in 5th. Needs to sort out that starting issue but wow, impressive.
A half sibling to benchmark horses SEATTLE BOOM and BRICKTOP, ROCKRIBBED jumped out quite impressively in Heat 10 on Nov 9 (green). He was ridden out over the 1000m, but the most impressive bit was the company he jumped out with, finishing 3rd behind HARIPOUR and MOSH MUSIC while in front of ZABELRINA and AL GALAYEL. The son of NIGHT OF THUNDER was 4th in an Oct 20 jump out after being a very cheap purchase at the Inglis sales. He might have some talent.
CAULFIELD - 10 November 2020
HIDDEN LEGEND worked super when winning Heat 3 on Nov 10 (white/red). Easily could’ve put lengths on this field if allowed to run and would’ve clocked a much better time in the process…
ESTA LA ROCA showed her customary speed to jump well, lead and win Heat 5 on Nov 10 (green/blue) under a really strong hold. Slow time for the day though, only 0.32s quicker then the 2yo heat and a massive 2.71s slower than the quickest of the day.
KURABUI (NZ) was slow out in Heat 10 on Nov 10 (pink), dropping back to a clear last. The un-raced 4yo mare was quietly ridden at the rear of the field for a majority of the jump out, before being asked for an effort late and flying past the rest of the field to display a super turn of foot. The daughter of PROISIR will get over a distance, so the 800m is certainly short of her best and puts some more strength on this work. She was beaten for pace in a Nov 4 jump out. Oh, she’s also the half sister to SURPRISE BABY…
MORNINGTON - 11 November 2020
Three jump out wins now for OFFSHORE BANDIT and the 3yo gelding is a must follow. The son of BEL ESPRIT won a 600m jump out on Oct 21, a 650m jump out on Nov 4 (fastest of day) and now a 900m jump out comfortably being Heat 5 on Nov 11 (blue/white). GOLDEVE was 2nd in this heat and who’s coming off a 2.5L 4th at Kilmore only 12 days prior so had the race fitness. Plenty of jump outs, so he’ll be well educated and a debut looks imminent.
A Sep 2 jump out saw this 3yo gelding, RUSTY LUCK, finish 2nd to HOT WATER, who was ridden with a lot more intent while this gelding was ridden quietly - they gapped 3rd. Before that, he won a Aug 12 jump out under absolutely no pressure - in 3rd place of PRIDE OF JENNI who has won two races since and most recently was 2nd in a Listed race at Flemington. In Heat 6 on Nov 11 (green & red sleeves), he was again very quietly ridden to finish in amongst it in 2nd. Have loved (!) his jump outs.
Two worth following from Heat 8 on Nov 11 being AMERICAN SAINT in 1st (blue) and STORMING THE SEAS in 2nd (red/white). AMERICAN SAINT’s debut form reads really well now where she was a 2L 2nd to LETZBEGLAM when beating 3rd in MELISENDE by another 2L. No doubt she’s a 3yo filly with some talent. The other 3yo filly in STORMING THE SEAS was a $440k purchase and is another that looks to have some talent. Following both.
PAKENHAM - 11 November 2020
That debut run as a 2yo when only overran by DIRTY THOUGHTS reads pretty well now - that filly won her next two races and is now Group 3 placed. DANCE TO DUBAI returned to the jump outs nicely in Heat 2 on Nov 11 (red), winning stylishly over the 1000m where she showed that speed she showed on debut to lead. Low gate first up and she’ll go very close.
DIAMONDS INTHE SKY’s 2yo debut run also reads quite well now. She finished 4th to PARLOPHONE, PEGGY SELENE and ZESTY BELLE while defeating MISS BOSETTI. A 2L gap back to DIVINE CAPRICE and SURE AM INVICINBLE who had already won maidens prior to this. Spelled and back to the jump outs, leading up the field in Heat 3 on Nov 11 comfortably over 1000m before being overran late by a runner that was under a lot more riding. Looks to be travelling well.
HAMILTON - 11 November 2020
The well name colt, OUTALOCKDOWN was a real eye catcher in Heat 5 on Nov 11 (purple). He sat off the speed that included CAPITAL ZOUS and NOW AND FOREVER (both of whom have won races), before peeling out around the bend and showing a real nice acceleration. He was under less pressure than the two leaders late and was clearly superior, only just running out of room - another 20m and he wins this easily. We saw him in a Jan 28 jump out as a 2yo, but the son of STRYKER hasn’t been seen since with this his first jump out back.
She was a good 3-4L off the leaders for a majority of the heat, beaten for speed (as she’s a stayer) but JANE’S ANGEL showed a fair turn of foot to run over the top and be eased down late in Heat 6 on Nov 11 (light blue). Nice bit of work by the stayer for the new yard - had a bit on this lot.
FLEMINGTON - 13 November 2020
SOLAR WINDS with a super jump out win in Heat 4 on Nov 13 (grey/black). Jumped cleanly, took up the lead under a strong hold and then just continually extended away, albeit in slower time for the day. They paid big money for this 2yo colt, $900k to be exact, and he has shown some talent in his first jump out already. A must follow.
ROCKING EAGLE just had the head down for the entire jump out of Heat 11 on Nov 13, doing and being asked of nothing. The winner though, KOTYS has made very good ground out wide while under pressure but not a real lot. The 3yo filly was easily last leaving the gates, travelled wide throughout and really got going late when attacking the line hard. She looks improved as a 3yo and her form from the first two runs as a 2yo also reads well now.
They don’t win much easier than YULONG PROGRESS in Heat 14 on Nov 13 (yellow). The 3yo gelding had a quiet Oct 30 (white) jump out, but in this heat he was just way too speedy - took up the lead from out wide and just continue to kick away under no pressure and a strong hold. He travelled very wide throughout the run but still managed to clock the second fastest time of the 17x heats that morning. He looks to have come back as a 3yo in very good order.
