PLAYIN’ THRU’s first jump out on the grass was ordinary, but her work on the synthetic track in Heat 2 on May 9 over the 1000m was super as she got a comfortable lead throughout but then kicked away late when put under pressure. It was certainly a nice enough bit of work to monitor her but am mindful of that first jump out and the fact that this is her fourth prep of jump outs.
Winx’s little sister TIME OF MY LIFE is zippy and she’s showed that in both of her jump out wins this prep. She had them covered over 800m on the grass track on May 2 and she was too speedy again over 750m on the synthetic track in Heat 9 on May 9 as she showed some lovely early speed to get to the front early and the did some nice work in the straight as she was put under pressure, extending away and really hitting the line to clock solid time. There will be a stack of eyes on this filly when she gets to the races but on the back of these jump outs, she should be running well.

Another lovely bit of work from BETTER LINK. The 3yo son of Better Than Ready caught our eye from a Apr 24 jump out and it was hard to miss his win in Heat 4 on May 9 as he went forward, led throughout and then kicked away over the concluding stages to record a comfortable win, clocking the fastest 990m time of the morning in the process. His stablemate in Proprietary was back in 2nd place and struggling to keep up, which is a positive sign. The older brother to The Instructor, he looks a lovely mover and expect him to be running well on debut.

Generation was quite an easy and big winner of Heat 7 on May 9 so we didn’t get good vision of the concluding stages for the rest of the field but though MA BELLE GRISE was solid when going to the line alongside Djukon. She’s an un-raced 4yo mare having only her second career jump out, her first coming on Mar 14 where she went to the line with Trust In Rosie (since 4th BM58) and Countess Jenni (since 1st MDN), which is nice form now. Not a stack of confidence, but she’s one who can run a cheeky race on debut.
POP ROCK has to be ready to go to the races now, his win in Heat 9 on May 9 marking his fourth jump out this prep following wins on Apr 3 and Apr 17 and a 2nd placing on May 1. He’s still doing a lot wrong, fighting the jockey for much of this heat as he wanted to run and go on with it, which is going to be a worry on debut but he does look like he has some speed (clocked the fastest 760m time of the morning), so he’s certainly one to keep an eye on for when he does get to the track.

Would be surprised if we saw EIGHTPOINTONE debut in Aus instead of Hong Kong following his win over 1100m in Heat 11 on May 9 that backed up his Apr 21 and Apr 6 wins. The 2yo son of Kermadec got the better of the 13-start 4yo race fit The Ballet Dancer late a 5L gap back to 3rd all while clocking the fastest time of the morning in the process. He looks smart and likely heads to HK now.
She was ordinary on debut but LOVIN’ BEV has now put together two nice jump out wins ahead of her return. She won a Wodonga jump out over 1000m back on Apr 24, doing it very easily, and backed that up with a win over 1100m in Heat 12 on May 9. There was not much mucking around here as Shirley Hunter took this 3yo filly straight to the front where she did it really easily throughout and as able to skip away around the bend, winning by ~3L in the second fastest time of the morning. This was super and love that they were over 1000m/1100m so if she can replicate this on raceday, she’ll run well.

Two wins now for RAVALLI as he kicked away to win Heat 4 on May 9 by 5L in the fastest time of the morning across the 2yo heats over 850m. He showed superior gate speed here to get to an easy lead in the early stages and it was much of the same into the straight where he then put up a margin as he was put under pressure and opened up that big margin. He did similar in his Apr 21 jump out at Flemington, leading throughout to record a soft win. The 2yo gelded son of Ilovethiscity was dominate here and can run well on debut.
Super bit of work from THE SHAPER in Heat 6 on May 9. He jumped well, but was heavily restrained and dropped back to last as the two leaders kicked away. He was a good 10L off them approaching the turn as he was put under pressure and really responding, closing superbly over the final 200m to get up and win while those leaders were all out of petrol. Lovely bit of work from this 2yo son of Street Boss, he showed a lovely turn of foot.
Can’t fault the work of LADY HOUDINI late, closing over the top of Demilitarized and Triumphantly late to take out Heat 14 on May 9. The unraced 3yo filly was having her third jump out, this time over 1100m as she sat just behind the speed throughout before peeling out late and coming over the top to win quite nicely. Greg Adamo paid $1k for this filly from the Inglis Online Sales back in June 2022 and not he back of her jump outs, he should make that back very quickly.
He’s a 4yo with 11-starts for only 1x win and 3x placings, but IT’S THERE bolted in Heat 22 on May 9 over the 1000m by 7L, clocking the second fastest time of the morning in the process. It was a very simple win, jumping straight to the front and never looking back. He ran 2nd in a MDN first up last prep on the back of a jump out win so keeping a close on where he pops up.

The jockey looked like he was just holding on as PRINCE SONIC went to the line for victory in Heat 2 on May 11. The 3yo gelding jumped cleanly to sit outside the leader throughout this jump out but it was his work late as the leader was put under pressure but he just idled up on the outside and closed superbly without ever actually being asked for an effort, clocking the second fastest 800m time of the morning in the process. Hard to get any gauge from his first jump out at Warrnambool on Apr 27 but he was given a good hit out there and really asked to go through the line, which would’ve brought him on for this quiet jump out. Mark O'Donnell only has the two horses in work but this was a nice jump out so certainly want to keep an eye on him for his debut.
Have to keep an eye on KARNAK who was having her first jump out this prep, cruising to the line having followed Corkscrew throughout in Heat 6 on May 11. These two went straight to the front early and took off but late it was the 69-rated Corkscrew who was under pressure while this un-raced 3yo filly was kept relatively quiet. The daughter of American Pharaoh was only having her first jump out this prep so one to follow into another bit of work before debuting but she is Coolmore owned out of the multiple Group 1 winning mare Srikandi, so there will be plenty of expectation already.
She was ridden and pushed out but the margin SECRET LOVER put on the rest of the field to win Heat 9 on May 11 was ridiculous, but unsure if it was due to the quality of the field or the ability of this 4yo mare. She clocked the fastest time of the morning for in the process and it was over 1100m, so a nice bit of work but being only her first jump out this prep, she’s one to watch into another bit of work.

CHANGING COLOURS was hard not to notice in Heat 12 on May 12. The 2yo daughter of The Autumn Sun was travelling sweetly out wide under a hold and while in her first jump out on Apr 28 she did the same and dropped back late, she was full of running here and obviously improved a stack between jump outs, doing her best work over the concluding stages despite covering a lot more ground than the rest of the field. Once she got into her work, she really went to and through the line in a nice bit of work. She’s the half-sister to the multiple Group-1 winning mare Nettoyer and has a bit of star power in her ownership so on the back of this, she’s one to follow into a debut.
