Weekly Review - May 22 to May 28

CRANBOURNE - 22 May 2023

WATCHLIST

OUTBACK MISS can’t do much more at the jump outs ahead of her debut. She was too speedy in a May 15 jump out win and she backed that up in Heat 8 on May 22. She didn’t have the same favours as her first jump out, sitting wide and just off the pace in the early stages of the jump out, but edged her way out wide and rounded up the leaders quite easily in the straight to extend away and win quite comfortably, clocking the fastest time of the morning in the process. The 2yo daughter of Rubick was a $150k buy from the Magic Millions in 2022 and looks to have a stack speed so on the back of these jump outs, she’ll run well on debut.

BENDIGO - 22 May 2023

WATCHLIST

PRIDE OF SULLIVAN showed that same speed she had in her May 5 jump out but this time in Heat 6 on May 22 she was allowed to just run, and that she did, winning by a ridiculous margin in the fastest 800m time of the morning. She has a stack of speed and it was all on show here as eh gave nothing else a chance as soon as she got to the front in the early stages. Lindsay Park trained her mum and this looks a 2yo filly that they might have some fun with.

PENSHURST - 22 May 2023

WATCHLIST

LUNA ANGEL has some ordinary form but she looks to have taken some improvement since that debut prep and improved now into her second prep. She was well held in a May 11 jump out alongside She's Ternacious (since 5th in MDN) and then backed that up in a nice bit of work in Heat 3 on May 22 when winning ahead of The Deputy in the fastest 1000m time of the morning. She’ll need an easy maiden and we’d like to get a price but want to keep an eye on her.

JAY GATSBY was superb in Heat 6 on May 22. The 5yo gelding sat behind the leaders before getting a gap along the rail and exploding to the front to win very comfortably in nice time for the 1000m. He had race fitness having been coming off a 3-week freshen up following two only fair runs but look for him third up and peaking on the back of this.

We put KARNAK in the WatchList following a May 11 jump out where she went to the line alongside the 69-rated Corkscrew and Artrese who has since won a BM58 first up. She was kept quiet in Heat 8 on May 22 as well as she sat off the speed, midfield throughout and went to the line under minimal pressure to finish 3rd behind the speedy Under The Palais and Night Of Delight. She’s a daughter of American Pharaoh out of the multiple Group 1 winning mare Srikandi and looks to move well. She can go well on debut.

PAKENHAM - 23 May 2023

WATCHLIST

FOREIGN RAIDER was unlucky on debut at Cranbourne when flashing home for 2nd while running the meetings fastest L400m/200m, but really showed her talent second up over 1400m at Flemington when flying home from near last to finish 3rd to Tijuana by only 1.8L, putting a 2L gap on Perfect Thought back in 4th. The 3yo daughter of Tarzino didn’t give much away in her first jump out as she dropped back to last and just cruised to the line, but was given more of a hit out in Heat 2 on May 23 as she was pushed out and asked to close off over the 1000m, of which she did. Keeping a close eye on this filly.

MISS GABBIANO has looked good in multiple jump outs across multiple preps now, the 2yo filly winning Heat 6 on May 23 as she showed a stack of early speed before then kicking away in the straight to win in the fastest 800m time of the morning. A 2yo daughter of Better Than Ready, she looks a nice mover with some speed.

MORNINGTON - 24 May 2023

WATCHLIST

AMANI ran a big race on debut despite her $91 SP, finishing 4th with some super form all around her as 3rd, 5th and 6th have all won since. She then started at the other end of the market second up over 1400m as a $2.80 SP favourite and just had too much to do from the back as she closed off well but fell just short to finish 2nd. She was back to the jump outs for a mid-prep hit out and certainly didn’t disappoint, bolting in over 900m in Heat 10 on May 24 in the fastest time of the morning while doing it very easily. She’ll be peaking now third up and on the back of this, should be running very well.

We can’t see the start of the jump out but the final stages was enough to see GRAEWAZI close super late to win Heat 11 on May 24. The first two in this heat got away from the rest of them and we don’t have a time so it’s hard to get a full picture, but did like the way he attacked the line and got over the top to win without much urgings from the jockey. This is his third prep of jump outs, his latest prep including only the one jump out on Dec 14 where he won ahead of stablemate Royal Wazi who then won on debut. Hoping to see another bit of work from this 3yo gelding prior to his debut but like the way he moves.

AVOCA - 25 May 2023

WATCHLIST

This is quite a ridiculous win from a 2yo, CLEAR MISSION bolting in Heat 3 on May 25 in the fastest time of the morning and the second fastest overall time. This 2yo colt clearly has a stack of speed, leading throughout in this jump out but also in a previous May 10 jump out where he was just overran late by Adeem while under a hold. He was only a $36k from Tasmania where he looks to have speed to burn so expect that on debut.

This was a super bit of work from VIVIDEEL in Heat 5 on May 25. The 3yo Dundeel gelding was ridden with no urgency in the early stages as he dropped to the rear of the field, cruising throughout before making a move as they approached the bend. He went around the field and was clearly the widest runner around the bend so once he straightened up, he really got going late as he attacked the line hard where he was also good past the line. Super first jump out.

SIMPLY SPARKLEZ closed superbly up the inside in Heat 9 on May 25 to win, having sat just in behind the leaders throughout for a lovely run, she really hit the line hard and backed up a previous May 16 win at Kerang. She can run well in a BM58/0-58 first up and hopefully at a price.

She’s an 8-start maiden but MRS BULL certainly didn’t look like it in Heat 10 on May 25. The 3yo filly sat behind the pace before edging out around the bend and closing superbly over the top to win from only a subtle shake of the reign. She looked super here and like that it was over 1000m as well so pretty keen to be with her first up on the back of this if she can find a suitable country maiden.

KILMORE - 26 May 2023

FLEMINGTON - 26 May 2023

WATCHLIST

Another nice jump out from MR EXPRESS. The 2yo gelding cruised to the line in a May 19 jump out alongside Flying Concello that caught our eye, backing that up in Heat 5 on May 26 but he was given a much more solid hit out. He led throughout this heat and was then was put under pressure and hard ridden late, opening up a gap to win nicely in the second fastest time of the morning.

NITROGEN was squeezed/checked in the early stages of his debut that forced him to settle last and while he finished 6th, the performance was a lot better than that suggests as he clocked the meetings second fastest L400m and fifth fastest L200m. This wasn’t the case in Heat 6 on May 26, jumping cleanly to lead here and then kicking away around the bend to record quite an easy victory in the end. It looked as though the blinkers went on as well here so look for that gear change that will spark even more improvement so keeping a close eye on this gelding second up.
