Weekly Review - May 11 to May 17

CRANBOURNE - 11 May 2020

FUZZ BUZZ – L Oliver

A nice jump out from this 3yo Smart Missile filly in Heat 5. She ran the equal fastest time of the morning for the 800m heats (50.1s). It was a good effort by this filly as she is yet to debut and should be looking to have one more jump out. She was slightly ridden out but the time she ran suggest she has some sort of ability.

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

CHARVET looked super when winning Heat 3 (50.6s) with DIODE cruising in 2nd. Both runners looked to cruise the line untested with ease.

Liked the run down the middle of the track in Heat 4 (50.3s) by EN AVAL. The lightly raced 4yo mare looked to do it quite well. She’s been within 3.4L in all 5 career runs to date so looking at hopefully a bm58 first up.

QUENTON was big eye-catcher when winning Heat 6 (50.1s). Her first up run was a forgive as she missed the start by a very long way. Prior to this she’s only been 2-3L off bm70/78’s so with a rating of 61, she could be very competitive in a lowly rated race second up.

TAVIRUN (NZ) looked super again this week when winning Heat 9 (1:05.00s) over 1000m just in front of REDCORE. He doesn’t look like he’ll be going away from his winning form at the back-end of last prep where he won 3-straight.

CAULFIELD – 12 May 2020

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

Loved the way STARDEN LASS quickened in Heat 1 (49.99s). She pulled out wide late after settling midfield, quickened around the field to win and extend past the line. She looked to have a bit on this field.

Hard to ignore the big win in the quickest time of the day by 2yo filly PEGGY SELENE in Heat 3 (48.22s). She comes down from QLD for the new Maher & Eustace stable and might have some ability…

WARRNAMBOOL – 13 May 2020

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

A GOOD YARN an impressive winner in Heat 3 over the 900m by a big margin. CHOISBORDER also had a good hit out in this heat.

TOUCH OF PARADISE won another jump out, taking out Heat 10 over the 900m in front of GINNY ANN and GARBO.

The field tailed off in the final stages which allowed RENOUF to come over the top in Heat 11. Didn’t look like a quick heat at all so prefer to see but do like her form from last prep and the fact she’s somehow still a maiden despite being 2nd to How Womantic by only 1.25L.

MORNINGTON - 13 May 2020

HUMMALONG – J McArdle

No secret that we are a fan of this 3yo filly, and she showed nice ability again today when winning Heat 2 (55.13s) in front of the Group 3 placed mare, La Tigeresa. She’s consistent and handles the wet, having ran a placing in all three career runs on no better than a Soft(7). From her last start 3rd, there has been 4 subsequent winners being 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th. She was 2nd in an Apr 29 (55.25s) jump out as well and looks ready to resume and break her maiden early.

SO LET’S TOAST – J McArdle

Running the second quickest time of the day in Heat 6 (55.04s), this 2yo So You Think colt displayed a very nice turn of foot to win and win well. Settled well just outside the leader and when asked in the straight he really extended to win. The $135k Magic Millions purchase had a bit on this field and think they’ll have an opinion of him due to his price and his half-sister going for $250k a year earlier. Only his first jump out too, quite impressive.

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

AREYOULISTENING went to the line in front of boom 3yo colt STRASBOURG and the Freedman import with $200k in earnings, KENYA in Heat 1 (54.90s). They ran the quickest time of the day.

Fair turn of foot showed by NEVERSHOTTHEDEPUTY in Heat 5 (55.23s). The 2yo filly was hard ridden at the top the straight and opened up a quick lead in a matter of seconds. She did look pretty green and isn’t big in stature.

SHE’S SENSATIONAL looked sensational in Heat 14 (57.32s) when she went past FLIRTING like she was nothing, despite her being pushed along. She was even eased down before the line when winning. This was impressive.

TIMBER TOP had a nice quiet jump out return in Heat 16 (56.95s) when 2nd to a race fit horse. He showed some talent in his debut prep so will be watching for another jump out to see if he has returned in better order.

Apr 29’s blackbooker LIVING DANGEROUSLY took out Heat 18 in 57.12s, but it was only a 2-horse field so can’t take too much away from this.

PAKENHAM - 13 May 2020

KUMO SUN – P Stokes

The 3yo Fighting Sun gelding hasn’t been seen at the races since last September, but the long break has looked to have done him well. He jumped out in Heat 3 (49.53s) over the 800m and was strong through the line without being asked for an effort. His last run last prep saw him finish 3rd behind Debt’n’deficit and Red Rossini. Notably, Debt’n’deficit came out and won the last at Flemington on Sat, May 16 so the form is strong.

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

THAT GIRL won Heat 4 (49.22s). The daughter of Sizzling ran the quickest time of the morning, although not a lot of depth throughout the program. She jumped out over 800m and wasn’t asked for an effort from rider Ben Allen.

BALLARAT - 15 May 2020

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

Super win by LADY SOLLY in Heat 5 (48.91s) in front of the 71-rated GINA’S HOPE in 2nd. Her heat was the clear fastest of the day. She’s been beaten by less than 0.5L in three-straight runs and now been sent for a let up. Will be ready to go fresh and looking to go one better with a win.

FLEMINGTON - 15 May 2020

OTHER NOTABLE RUNNERS AND JUMP OUTS:

MARINE BELLE ran the quickest time of the morning on the poly track, winning Heat 5 in 46.92s but did have the benefit of race fitness having had 3 runs this prep already. She’s still a maiden though after 4 runs including a 3rd and 3x 4th’s. Could give a sight.

Heat 3 (48.07s) was won by HOME OF THE BRAVE after a disappointing second up run. He’ll be looking to bounce back 3rd up.
