Weekly Review - June 6 to June 12

Please note, the following jump outs and trails were abandoned this week due to the wet weather and condition of the tracks --> Cranbourne Trials (June 6), Bendigo Jump Outs (June 6) and Moe Jump Outs (June 7).

PAKENHAM - 8 June 2022

OTHER

BARONESSA was disappointing first up when 5th of 10 on the Pakenham Synthetic over 1000m, heading back to the jump outs to win Heat 1 on June 8 by a big margin although she did clock the slowest of the 3x heats. Wonder if she didn’t handle the 63kg first up and would be better suited in a BM64 with less weight? She did win a BM64 over 1009m at Yarra Valley last preparation.

FAIRY SPIRIT was 2nd on May 10 prior to winning a previous May 24 jump out over 800m in the second fastest time of the morning, going one better as he stepped up to 1000m in Heat 2 on June 8, winning in the fastest time of the morning. He was ridden cold out of the barriers, taken to a clear last by a good 6L+ but had a superior turn of foot than these as he exploded down the middle of the track to win. He’s ready to go to the races now and expect him to be competitive.

The synthetic track might be the key to ROLLING FIELDS, bolting in Heat 3 on June 8 over the 1000m. The 4yo gelding led throughout before being put under pressure at the top of the straight and extending away over the concluding stages, putting a good margin on the field to win with ease. He was a $2.90 SP favourite on debut at Kilmore when 10th of 11, which was the day where you could not see a thing with the fog so it’s hard to know what went on but he was beaten by 22.2L… This was a super win though so check for some gear changes (may of had winkers on here) and watch for him second up on the synthetic track - expecting an improved performance if so.

GEELONG - 8 June 2022

OTHER

We mentioned MAUSER after a May 5 jump out when he finished 2nd between Zaratite and Zazster (since 3rd and 4th in BM58’s) who were both mid-prep. He was given a 5-week freshen up, returning to win Heat 4 on June 8 over the 1000m on the synthetic track by a big margin. As mentioned after his last jump out, he’s had the 12x starts for only 1x win and 3x placings, but he has only recently been gelded (ahead of last prep) where he was 2nd and then 3rd in BM58’s before bleeding in both nostrils (clear forgive run). Keep an eye out for him first up, he might be worth a spec at a big price in a BM58.

MORTLAKE - 9 June 2022

OTHER

They don’t win much more impressively than NO DRAMA, bolting in over 800m in Heat 3 on Jun 9 in the fastest time of the morning as he handled the Heavy track with ease. He won a previous Jun 1 jump out over 800m as well and looks to be a nice prospect for Lindsey Smith. He won on debut in NZ at $1.60 but that also was over 800m, so a slight query on him getting out further than 800m but regardless, he looks to move well.

MORNINGTON - 9 June 2022

Please note, these were moved to the new Pakenham Synthetic track due to the track conditions at Mornington.

FLEMINGTON (WERRIBEE) - 10 June 2022

Caroline Jennings looks to have a talented 3yo in WINNERS BET. He was a $40k buy at the 2021 Inglis April (Early) Online Sale when he was previously named Mobarhin with Lindsay Park. He was then with Tom Dabernig (who’s obviously ex-Lindsay Park), winning a Mar 22 jump out ahead of Adandiman (won BM64 first up) and Moon Yanco (since 3rd, 2nd, 3rd and 1st in MDN’s) and a Apr 4 jump out ahead of Songaa (who was a $2.50 SP favourite on debut but ran 5th). Now with Caroline Jennings, he was 2nd in a May 20 jump out to My Artemis (who has won a MDN by 3L since) prior to his superb win in Heat 3 on Jun 10, winning by a huge margin in the second fastest time of the morning ahead of Swerving 2nd, Jillette 3rd (ran in GRP 3 last start) and Office Jim 4th, all handy horses. Super jump outs with form all around him, he’s going to be hard to beat on debut.

OTHER

Another solid jump out from SUGAR POP, finishing 3rd in Heat 5 on Jun 10 alongside better than maiden grade horses who have all broken their maiden previously. Much like her May 27 jump out, she went to the line under a hold where she was never fully asked for an effort. Quiet but nice jump outs will have this 3yo filly ready to go first up and she should go very close to breaking the maiden early.

KING TOMMY went better again in Heat 7 on Jun 10, winning in the fastest time of the morning alongside some previous winners in Loudun, Loveplanet and Galleon. Slightly worried about the fact that he just took off in the early stages and got to a big lead while looking keen as they then made ground on him late, but he did look to give a bit of a fight late. He won that Jun 3 jump out on the synthetic in similar circumstances, so we’ll follow but treading carefully.

We had a note to monitor LOVETTA for another jump out after a quietly ridden May 27 jump out when 3rd and this is exactly what we wanted to see, the 2yo filly bolting in Heat 10 on Jun 10. She sat midfield but wide without cover throughout with her most impressive work being over the concluding stages, exploding down the middle of the track when asked for an effort to win impressively. The daughter of Lonhro displayed a lovely turn of foot and connections will certainly be hoping she shows this sort of talent at the races, being a $550k Inglis Australian Easter Yearling purchase. Big watch on this filly.

It was a slow time for the day and Chalonne Princess got the better of him late, but the Iffraaj gelding in READ looked to move well as he cruised to the line in Heat 11 on Jun 10 when 2nd. Worth monitoring for another jump out.

ROSEHILL - 7 June 2022

VENGEFUL - Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou

Jun 7 (Rosehill) - nice trial alongside previous winners, finishing a close 0.32L 2nd to Overlord where they clocked the third fastest 900m time of the morning - the 3yo gelding went forward, sat outside the leader and cruised to the line without ever being fully asked for an effort - ignore his debut when a beaten $2.60 favourite, he pulled up with cardiac arrhythmia - he can go well first up this prep.
