Weekly Review - January 18 to January 24

CRANBOURNE - 18 January 2020

Only 7 heats, with 3 of those 2yo's over 800m. Ordinary set of jump outs here and happy to not blackbook / highlight any particular runner's.

BENDIGO - 19 January 2020

Blackbooked from a Sep 18 jump out, KANIVA was back to the jump outs after a good 3 month break and was very hard held on the inside of Heat 1 on Jan 19 (yellow). The 3yo filly finished a long way back in 4th but have no doubt that she could’ve finished a lot closer if she was allowed to run and it was against some BM64+ horses. She looks to have some talent and this was a quiet bit of work to tune her up for the debut.

A nice 1000m jump out in Heat 4 on Jan 19 for MYSTERY DANCER (pink) and HERE TO SHOCK (white with black sleeves). Both past features in our blackbook reviews, Mystery Dancer the one we want to follow into a maiden who will lead and be hard to chase down while Here To Shock has already broke the maiden and will be looking to go on with it over a mile or so where we think he has some talent. Really like these two gallopers and they ran good time in comparison to Heat 5.

CAULFIELD - 19 January 2020

Despite the slow time, thought it was a nice win by the maiden SUNNYSIDE COTTAGE in Heat 8 on Jan 19 (white with blue sleeves) where the 3yo filly looked to have the likes of Cumberbatch and Epic Ranger covered. She was allowed to run here, taking up the lead early and never looking like being caught which looks to be her racing style. She hit the line well so happy to follow her into another jump out (hopefully) before she resumes.

SHARNA STAR won by a huge margin in average time in Heat 9 on Jan 19 (white and green) but is a 5yo mare with only 3 starts to her name so not exactly sure how to read this bit of work. She has a history of over-racing so suspect they just let her run in this which is why the big winning margin, which isn’t good. Want to see another jump out where she relax’s before backing her.

BENALLA - 20 January 2020

Following a nice official trial over only 850m, ULTIMATE EDITION stepped up to 1000m and won comfortably in Heat 3.

Also follow SUNSHINE MOSHE who looked nice enough winning Heat 8 on Jan 20 (blue) despite not beating much of a field at all. That debut form behind Wicklow Town reads well enough now - hard to fully trust these country jump out's but one worth following and keeping in mind.

PAKENHAM - 20 January 2020

A few nice winners early over the 1000m including SPIRIT OF AQUADA in Heat 1 and YULONG CODE in Heat 2. The 2yo THE BLUEBAGGER won Heat 9 quite well over 800m as well.

Another super jump out for the un-raced full brother of Exceedence in OXLEY ROAD, winning Heat 7 on Jan 20 (red) in the clear fastest time of the day for 800m. The colt took a sit behind the two leaders, sitting a good 3-4L off them before getting a niggle from Luke Nolen and responding well to that riding to show a turn of foot and overtake those leaders ahead. Super bit of work, he looks to have some talent - would be alright if he was just half as good as his brother…

MORNINGTON - 20 January 2020

MIDWEST is a talented 2yo, no doubt now. After coming down the middle in a Jan 6 jump out with this pricked to win, the 2yo colt took it up to the older horses over 900m when winning Heat 6 on Jan 20 (red) with absolute ease. He went straight to the front and gave nothing else a chance, super impressive and was never asked for an effort unlike his previous jump out where he responded to the riding. Big ‘!’ on this colt to follow him into a 2yo race on debut.

She had the race fitness edge, but CHARMING ADELINE was a very impressive winner over 600m of Heat 8 on Jan 20 (green) and really shouldn’t be a maiden for too much longer. If she finds a country maiden and draw’s low, definitely got to be mindful of her as she should go close.

FLEMINGTON - 22 January 2020

SWATS THAT looked super in Heat 1. We’ve always been a fan of her and the Autumn should be no different - expect her to win some nice races again. A sizzling jump out win for POLAND who absolutely bolted in Heat 2. After finishing 10th first up in a Caulfield BM70, BEAUTY BETTY won Heat 6 with absolute ease and likewise ZACOUVER who was poor up the straight at Flemington in a BM70 but returned to the jump outs to win Heat 12 easily.

Of the 2yo’s, RED HAWK was a nice winner of Heat 5 (light blue) in front of INGRATIATING and clocked the fastest 800m heat of the entire meeting! CAPO STRADA closed well in Heat 7 (blue) and was in front past the line with a bit more to give. MT BULLER jumped well but was taken to last and then closed super out wide in Heat 9 (white).

ANTAGONISER was under a very strong hold to and through the line in his return to the racetrack in Heat 4 on Jan 22 (blue). Past the line he was in front under a very strong hold still with the likes of the undefeated Dickin Medal and Dabiyr. Super bit of work - keen to see him in his second preparation as a gelding over 1400m/1600m.
