Weekly Review - December 7 to December 13

CRANBOURNE - 7 December 2020

Coming into his third jump out this preparation, VILIFIED had the blinkers applied and improved dramatically to win Heat 7 on Dec 7 (light blue) over 1000m. While his Nov 10 and Nov 23 jump outs were relatively ordinary, the improvement he made in this heat to lead from start to finish was pleasing. He is a well bred 3yo-colt being a half-brother to YES YES YES, DEE NINE ELLE and ANOTHER SIN - all of which have won plenty of good races in their career’s. One we must follow.

He was slow out but the BIG FLASH made up plenty of ground throughout Heat 10 on Dec 7 (white/blue) despite also being held up when coming around the bend. He won the heat and was put under pressure down the straight, responding well. The form from that debut run reads very very well now. He was a 2L 3rd to MELBA STORM (then ran 5L behind ODEUM and won a BM64) and SINGING SWORD (won next start by 4.3L) while defeating HE’S A BALTER (won his next two starts being a MDN and BM58) with BATTLECRUISER, RED ON RED and ALOVELYBROWNHORSE all winning since. Big watch for his second career run.

AMINATU has demolished them in Heat 12 on Dec 7 (white). The 3yo filly had a quieter jump out on Nov 23, but in this heat she showed her customary speed to lead and show a super turn of foot to put them away late in the straight to win by several lengths. She debuted on a Soft7 over 1200m, lead and tired late so hoping first up she goes to a 1000/1100m race and strikes a good track where we will see some improvement heading into her second prep.

WITH EDGE backed up his impressive Nov 30 jump out with another nice bit of work in Heat 13 on Dec 7 (blue with yellow spots). He took a sit in behind the speed and hit the line under a strong hold, never being asked for an effort and never really having clear room in front of him. He shouldnt be a maiden much longer.

He went to the line with LANI BANG BANG in a Nov 23 jump out, that runner then won a BM58 by 2.8L. JOEY JAWS then took out Heat 14 on Dec 7 (yellow with black sleeves) impressively in nice time when leading from start to finish. The 3yo gelding was a $90k purchase and expect him to be competitive on debut.

PAKENHAM - 7 December 2020

Liked the way the 4yo mare MEDIC went to the line just ahead of MORE THAN EXCEED when winning Heat 4 on Dec 7 (red) over 800m in slick time for the day. She jumped well and led from start to finish, and the daughter of SNITZEL looks to have come back improved.

MORNINGTON - 9 December 2020

Big fan of how CARIBBEAN PEARL has been jumping out. She was super when hard held in 4th on Nov 25 and backed that up with a strong performance in Heat 3 in Dec 9 (yellow). She over-raced bad for pretty much the entire backs straight as she was under a strong hold with the mouth open wanting to go quicker. Once allowed to move in the straight, she really knuckled down and hit the line strongly. She’ll get back which isn’t a friendly racing pattern, but a BM64 first up will be more than ideal.

The quickest 900m heat of the morning on Dec 9 was Heat 4, won very comfortably by APRES LA MER (blue/white) who led from start to finish and hit the line with pace under a strong hold. The 4yo mare is lightly raced and another impressive jump out win at Sandown on Nov 19. She is travelling super and expect her to go well after this let-up. She was 4th in a 1200m MDN first up, so maybe leading over a shorter distance will be next?

DUKE OF NEWORLEANS romped him in a 700m jump out on Nov 25 and proved that it was no fluke when winning Heat 9 on Dec 9 (purple and red sleeves) in very impressive fashion. The 3yo gelding jumped clearly the best, took up the lead and travelled well throughout. Given an ever so slight push to get around the bend, he then finished under a strong hold with 2nd and 3rd off the bit chasing. Impressive jump outs.

TERANG - 10 December 2020

EL FOR EFFORT a very impressive jump out when coming from the back in Heat 1 on Dec 10 (pink) to win, clocking around that 50s mark for 800m. In only her first jump out this prep, she settled a clear last before making use of the long Terang straight when swooping down the middle of the track to win quite comfortably in the end. Big eye catcher.

FIRST MATE (black/green sash) had no room on the inside as well… again… big watch!

RETROVAILLES first caught the eye on Nov 16 when missing the kick by a long way but still managed to finish only 2-3L off KURAMAE. She then flew home out wide in a Nov 24 to win impressively, backing it up with another nice win in Heat 2 on Dec 10 (yellow). This filly looks to have some talent and a fair turn of foot. Big fan.

Plenty of jump outs for AS I PLEASE now, continually impressing in all. These jump outs include a 2nd on Nov 11, a 2nd on Nov 16 (winner since 2nd in a MDN and beat 3rd by 5L…), a 2nd on Nov 24 over 1000m (winner since 3rd in BM58) and now a quieter 3rd in Heat 3 on Dec 10 (pink). The 4yo gelding was not asked for an effort and think this jump out was just to put the final touches on him, education wise, before making a debut and being competitive.

FLEMINGTON - 11 December 2020

DUNDEEL STAR (blue/green) and MCLELLAN (red) were too good for them in Heat 8 on Dec 11, with the 66-rated ELUDING in 3rd place.

DUNDEEL STAR was a $300k purchase back in 2019 but was ordinary on debut as a 2yo and spelled immediately. The 3yo filly returned in this heat and showed good speed to be up there leading. She didn’t travel as good as the winner in MCLELLAN but they ran good time for the morning and both were together past the line.

MCLELLAN was poor on debut at Tatura on a Heavy9 track, clearly not handling the track as he start $3.80 that day. Now gelded, the 3yo has returned in good order to win this and is a must watch for us if this first jump out back is anything to go by. He looks to have returned well as a 3yo.
