Weekly Review - December 27 to January 2

Below is our Weekly Review of the Victorian Jump Outs and Trials in the week December 27 to January 2. the highlighted runners are (generally) horses that have jumped out well and caught our eye on multiple occasions, or horses that really (!) caught our eye. The horses under the ‘Other’ section are horses that have jumped out well on the sole occasion, horses that aren’t maidens that have jumped out well or other horses that we think are worth keeping in mind at their next start.

CRANBOURNE - 29 December 2021

INUNDATION is a son of Headwater that was a $30k Magic Millions 2YO’s in training purchase in 2020 and looks to have some talent. His solid Dec 9 jump out win behind Lost In Roppongi (who we have an opinion of) was backed up by an extremely slick win in Heat 7 on Dec 29 in the fastest 850m time of the morning. He was away fairly, quickly mustering speed to take up the lead and was way too good, kicking away in the straight to record a big 5L+ win. He couldn’t have done it much easier and had Lost In Roppongi not got close in his first jump out, he’d have two big margin jump out wins. He’s a much follow.

OTHER

Big win by WRITE THE SCORE in Heat 10 on Dec 29 over the 1000m, backing up her Dec 20 win over 800m to suggest she’s come back in good order having finally broken the maiden last preparation at start #9. She’s only 58-rated, so a BM58 first up would be more than suitable.

WARRNAMBOOL - 29 December 2021

OTHER

Another nice win by FINANCE CHOICE, taking out Heat 2 on Dec 29 but not sure of the quality of the jump out with 2nd place being a 10-start maiden. As a result, it’s hard to make him a highlighted runner but he’s certainly a runner to follow and watch for first up when he resumes. He is ready to go back to the races now.

MORNINGTON - 30 December 2021

OTHER

If CITIZEN goes back to a maiden third up, he’ll be hard to beat. After finishing 2nd first up where he had minimal luck and then going into town to run a 4.8L 7th in a BM70 at Flemington where he lost a plate curing the run, the 3yo colt will be getting to close to peak fitness and his tick over jump out in Heat 3 on Dec 30 over 1000m behind Florescent Star will top him off. Doubt he opens much of a price, but one to follow.

SMART MOZZIE was too smart (and speedy) for them as he led all the way in Heat 6 on Dec 30, albeit over only 750m but he did beat home some alright gallopers in What A Smasher and Madame Bolli. This was the clear fastest time of the morning by almost 2s and he looked to do it with ease despite not having the blinkers on. He looks to have returned in good order.

Slick for jump out for the 2yo filly FUN WITH FLAGS, bolting in Heat 7 on Dec 30 in the second fastest 750m time of the morning. She was heavily restrained early as she wanted to get on with it but was forced to take a sit, but once she was allowed to give a little more, she really extended and did so under no pressure. Looks a nice moving filly and a lovely first jump out.

FLEMINGTON - 31 December 2021

We mentioned CHAIN after his first jump out on Dec 17 where he sat off the speed and weaved his way through late and had a lot more to offer. His win in Heat 10 on Dec 31 saw him too good for the field, travelling quietly along the rail to lead from start to finish and win under no jockey pressure in nice time. He was under a strong hold throughout while those around him were under a lot more pressure. A $260k Magic Millions purchase who’s now with Chris Waller, he looks to be travelling well.

OTHER

Following a disappointing debut as a 2yo back in July 2021, TEA MASTER looks to have returned in good order with a 2nd placing in a Dec 15 jump out to Heardyou and then again in Heat 8 on Dec 31 as he cruised to the line under no riding having had an easy run up front along the rail.

The un-named Moroney runner that took out Heat 9 on Dec 31 under the breeding I Am Invincible x Lipari is a half-sibling to the Group 1 winner Levendi.

ALFOIL bolted in Heat 12 on Dec 31, the blinkers going for this jump out where he went straight to the front and it was over very quickly.

Watch on the un-raced filly ALLEGORICAL who had a quiet Dec 17 jump out before a relatively easy all the way win in Heat 15 on Dec 31 where she went to the lead and kicked away in the straight when given a little push to put a nice 2-3L margin on the field. She’s well bred too, being by All Too Hard out of the mare Metaphorical who placed multiple times in Group 2 and 3 races.
