Weekly Review - December 12 to December 18

CRANBOURNE - 12 December 2022

WATCHLIST

BLING IT ON was the pick of the 2yo’s in Heat 5 on Dec 12, the 2yo Bel Esprit filly too good late when winning this 800m heat but was last of 4x runners in a previous 650m jump out.

SMOKEN HAZE is a 5yo gelding with 1x win and 1x placing from 22-starts but his work in Heat 6 on Dec 13 was super. He wasn’t wearing the blinkers here, travelling quietly out the back with not much room to go and this was the case for most of the straight, as he went to the line hard held in 5th place. Only his first jump out this prep so we’ll keep an eye on him for another but based on his form, he could be a spec bet at a nice price in a 0-58.

TICK TOCK LADY is an un-raced 4yo mare and she moved nicely to win Heat 6 on Dec 13. Monitoring her into another jump out.

CRANBOURNE (POLY TRACK) - 12 December 2022

WATCHLIST

TOO VIENNESE bolted in Heat 9 on Dec 12 over the 990m ahead of Corona Lad.

He wasn’t a standout, but KEEFNEEDSAFEED was solid when quietly ridden into 3rd place in Heat 12 on Dec 12, which was similar to his Dec 5 jump out when also quietly ridden but this time up the inside to finish 2nd, both over 1000m. The 3yo son of Akeed Mofeed has yet to been fully let go, so we’re not entirely surely whats under the bonnet but he looks to be a nice mover so keeping a close eye on him.

FILLENTINA was an easy all the way winner of Heat 14 on Dec 12, but liked the way SKEPTICISM closed from further back to finish a close 2nd and she was probably the pick of the two 3yo filly’s, but both are worth keeping in mind as they likely have another jump out before debuting.

PAKENHAM - 13 December 2022

OTHER

THE BRILL BUILDING ran 3rd on debut at Sale where he was 1.6L behind Katsu (who won a BM64 at his next start) and Lady Di Di (since ran 2nd and 3rd in MDN’s). Given a let-up, he returned 2-stone lighter (gelded) for a 800m jump out on Nov 29 where he won nicely. He stepped up to 1000m in Heat 3 on Dec 13 where he led throughout but really opened up a big gap on the field in the straight when put under pressure, winning by a good margin in quick time, the second quickest time we have recorded. He was in the market on debut and ran well so the fact he’s now been gelded with some nice jump outs, he should be going well first up.

WATCHLIST

Solid return jump out from MUISCA, winning Heat 4 on Dec 13 over 800m ahead of the undefeated Merry Mac Boy and Madam Dubai.

WANGARATTA - 13 December 2022

WATCHLIST

The 2yo gelding MANALORE was a very easy winner of Heat 5 on Dec 13 but it was the clear slowest time of the morning, which dampens the performance a little.

LOTTWON jumped well but was taken back to last in the early stages of Heat 7 on Dec 13 before closing very well into 2nd place over the concluding stages. We were on him on debut at Sandown when he finished 3rd where Yaki Ishi (2nd) has since won. He’s a talented colt and certainly has at least a maiden win in him so keen to keep an eye on him into another jump out.

A massive 5.5L win by the un-raced PROJETO in Heat 8 on Dec 13, jumping straight to the front and never looking back. The 3yo son of Master Of Design clocked the third fastest 900m time of the morning in the process and was simply just way too speedy for Bromeo back in 2nd place, a 3yo that has had the two starts for a 3rd and a 2nd. Bit of a watch on this gelding, wanting to see another jump out.

Keeping a close eye on TOSEN GLORY who finished 5th in Heat 9 on Dec 13 but closed really well under a hold from last throughout. A 3yo son of Tosen Stardom, want to see him step out again.

RED CUT ROCK was $26 SP first up for Craig Weeding when finishing 12.3L back in 13th but that didn’t stop him from starting $5 SP next start but he against finished 13th. Back to the jump outs, he bolted in Heat 10 on Dec 13 and clocked the second fastest time of the morning. Could only possible entertain a small bet at a big price, otherwise he’ll be going around without us on.

MORTLAKE - 14 December 2022

MORNINGTON - 14 December 2022

WATCHLIST

LADY TINO closed really well from the back of the field to finish 3rd in Heat 5 on Dec 14 after travelling wide throughout. The 3yo daughter of Palentino was ridden out but really pick up late and was also good through the line. Keeping an eye on her.

Lady Tino (mentioned above) was 3rd in a Nov 30 jump out while TINO’S DAUGHTER was 1st. This 3yo filly is also a daughter of Palentino and took out Heat 6 on Dec 14 after sitting outside the leader and showing a nice turn of foot over the concluding stages to win with a bit in hand, clocking the second fastest time of the morning. Another nice moving filly for Jerome Hunter.

If you watch past the line in Heat 9 on Dec 14, PRIDING is actually equal with the winners and really powering on. We mentioned her following a Dec 7 jump out where she just cruised to the line out wide and this was quite the same here, dropping out to a clear last where she was under a super strong hold throughout and then just cruising to the line, but closing well. She’s a flashy Pride Of Dubai filly and love how she’s closing off her jump outs so will be keen to see her settle closer on debut and if so, she can give most maidens a shake.

KYNETON - 16 December 2022

FLEMINGTON - 16 December 2022

WATCHLIST

Solid bit of work from WASHINGTON in Heat 4 on Dec 16, sitting 3-wide out the back of the field as he then made his move around the bend before being put under pressure in the straight, responding and closing well to win where he was full of running past the line. He was always out the back in a Dec 2 jump out as well but wasn’t pushed out like he was here. He’s a good looking 2yo colt that moves well.

The un-named 3yo gelding BELARDO x RAISE YOUR VOICE won a May 17 trial in NZ that ultimately saw him end up here in Aus where he has then won another two jump outs, the first on Dec 2 and the latest in Heat 6 on Dec 16. Will note that the horse that he went to the line with here is a 2yo and the time was below average for the morning, so some slight queries there but he’s won everything that he’s done so worth keeping an eye on him.

EXPLORING just cruised to the line in Heat 8 on Dec 16, the 2yo Brazen Beau filly just going through the motions out wide as she was never asked for an effort but still was super. Think she actually won this heat and it was the third fastest time of the morning, which adds merit to the jump out. She had a trial on Nov 28 at Hawkesbury where she was slowly away and got the head up a lot as she looked for a rails run, which finally came and she then just snuck up the rail to almost steal victory, again cruising to the line. She might have a little motor under the hood and has been solid in her jump outs and trials, so a 2yo filly to monitor.

Looks as though the blinkers went on for GOLD REVOLVER in Heat 9 on Dec 6 and he’s absolutely bolted in and clocked the fastest time of the morning in the process. He went straight to the front and gave nothing else a chance, leading from start to finish where Daicos was 2nd but struggling to keep up, a massive gap back to 3rd. He’s been gelded and the blinkers go on fro his disappointing debut prep, so on the back of this jump out, we’ll see an improved performance first up.

RANDWICK - 13 December 2022

WATCHLIST

GRACEFUL FORCE and James McDonald just cruised to the line in Trial 6 on Dec 13 after settling in behind the leaders throughout. She was nabbed on the line, but she did it very easily and had a lot to give past the line as well as she then opened a gap past the line. A half-sister to Holyfield, she failed on debut as 2yo but that was a Heavy(10) and she was tipped out straight away, so happy to forgive that. Lovely first trial back.

AVEBURY was a really nice winner of Trial 14 on Dec 13, albeit over only 740m and her first for the prep. She’ll have another trial before resuming so we’ll follow her into that.
