CRANBOURNE - 15 August 2022
Quite a dominant victory in the end for MADE THE EFFORT, closing superbly from the back of the field in Heat 7 on Aug 15. The 3yo Reward For Effort filly showed a lovely turn of foot in the straight over the 990m, recording an comfortable 3-4L victory in the process. She was a very cheap $4K purchase for Grand Syndicates and on the back of this jump out alone, she should be making that back quite quickly. Keep an eye out for another jump out prior to her debut though.
No surprise to see TREOTTO win another jump out, taking out Heat 11 on Aug 15 over the 760m to back up his previous Aug 9 official trial win having been scratched at the gates on July 31 when attempting to return to the races that day at Bendigo. He’s now had the 9x career jump outs but only the 2x career runs when 2nd and 4th in maidens, which is slightly worrying in the terms of becoming a pure jump out star. Monitor where he pops up and the market support he may (or may not) attract.
ST ARNAUD - 15 August 2022
Andrew Bobbin looks to have CLAUDIA SHIVER in good order ahead of her return for the new stable. She was a quiet 3rd to Just Folk and Amish Boy in her return jump out on Jul 26 over the 900m with a gap to 4th and 5th, being stablemates Hendrika (since 2nd in 0-64 at $15 SP) and Princess Pancakes (since 2nd in 0-58 at $19 SP). Given a little break, she returned to finish 2nd in Heat 8 on Aug 15 to Lovin’ Laughs where they clocked the 2nd fastest 900m time of the morning with a big gap to 3rd. The 4yo mare is 58-rated, so a BM58 or 0-58 first up for Andrew Bobbin would be a perfect kick off point and think she can give a sight.
PAKENHAM - 16 August 2022
OTHER GALEKA was the clear pick of Heat 5 on Aug 16, and the pick of the day. The 3yo filly dropped to the rear of the field in the early stages of the 750m heat before peeling out wide and just cruising to the line but making up a stack of ground, finishing 2nd to a ridden out Desert Star. She looked tremendous in her return and is a filly to monitor into another jump out.
MORNINGTON - 17 August 2022
Watch for Jamie Kah sticking with the Freedman import in ENFANT ROUGE, she’s been on board for both bits of works and she looks a mare that moves well. She cruised to the line in an official trial on Aug 9 over 800m before bolting in Heat 5 on Aug 17 over the 900m on the synthetic track. She’s had the 4x career starts for 4x placings, all of them overseas and on the back of this work with Jamie Kah, she looks more than talented enough to be winning a maiden first up in Aus.
FLEMINGTON - 19 August 2022
SAIGON was superb in Heat 12 on Aug 19. The returning 6yo mare stalked the ridden-out Aranath throughout the heat, looking like she was jogging on the spot until she was taken back to the inside and exploded to the front past the line. She has a first up record of 7: 2-3-0 and should head to a BM78 first up, so keep an eye on her as this was super.
Big win by OBFUSCATION in Heat 13 on Aug 19, clocking the fastest time of the morning in the process as the 4yo gelding was ridden out and did it well. He was quietly ridden in a Aug 8 but hasn’t been seen since his maiden win back in September 2021 where he defeated Treporti when with Mick Price & Michael Kent. Now with Simon Zahra, he’s always shown talent so will certainly be one to watch first up in his return.
CUSTODIAN was due to resume during the week but assume he was scratched due to the wet weather. Prior to that race he had jump outs on Jul 27 and Aug 8, the latest up the straight at Flemington alongside the 5yo mare Versilia. He was back at the jump outs for a tick over run, taking out Heat 16 on Aug 19 comfortably in slick time with (who we think is) Mark Zahra on board. He looks to be a nice mover and connections will certainly be hoping so, being a half-brother to the $1.9M colt Profondo as a $1.15M purchase in 2021 himself. He looks a talented colt and certainly has a maiden in him before he potentially heads to a Caulfield Guineas in the hope of being a top colt.
WARWICK FARM - 15 August 2022
RANDWICK - 19 August 2022
Arrowfield look as though they’ve got a talented Snitzel filly in ORZALA. She had a quiet Jul 26 jump out over 780m on the synthetic, sitting out the back of the field with J-Mac just cruising to the line on her out wide. It was her work in Trial 8 on Aug 19 over the 1045m that was super impressive, despite the time being the clear slowest of the morning. J-Mac stuck with the filly, getting a lovely run in behind the speed before displaying a lovely turn of foot late to win, really going on with it past the line. She was a $700k buy being out of the mare Norzita, a dual Group 1 winner of the 1600m Flight Stakes and 2000m Vinery Stud Stakes, so there will certainly be some expectations on this filly and she certainly looks to move well.
A couple worth monitoring who had their first trials for the prep.
RINGDEMBELLS finished 2nd in Trial 13 to Shalailed where they clocked the fastest time of the morning in the process. She looked to move well enough in her first career trial.
SATURN STAR went straight to the front in Trial 15 and led from start to finish, recording an easy 2.18L win over the 742m but did record the slowest time of the morning.
SMART LITTLE MISS from Trial 16 with the 4yo mare dropping back to a clear last despite leaving the gates with the field - she worked her way through the field superbly from a very long way last to just finish 2nd, with her work past the line even better as she kept going on with it. This was a super first trial back.
