WARRNAMBOOL - Race 2

OTHER

You can’t take anything from her first jump out on Mar 22 but #10 HOLLYWOOD SIREN showed a flash of her talent as she cruised to the line in 3rd place in Heat 15 on Apr 7 over the 1000m. She was doing her best work late and doing so under her own steam in an impressive bit of work. She can run well this prep and give a sight, but may be best as she gets over 1400m and beyond.

#10 HOLLYWOOD SIREN looks to be tracking well ahead of her return to the races. She was always out the back and never tested in her first jump out on Mar 22 and then was quietly ridden again on Apr 7 when 3rd and defeating Nicstar (4th) easily, that runner since running 2nd first up. She stepped up to 1000m in Heat 3 on Apr 21 and was again quietly ridden in behind the speed, looking like she had a lot more to give behind some more experienced gallopers. She can run well first up this prep.

#15 TOREGENE won a pair of NZ trials on Dec 17 and Feb 1 prior to coming over to Australia and winning a jump out here, showing a lovely turn of foot to take out Heat 8 on Apr 11 over the 1000m relatively softly in the end. This was the second fastest 1000m time of the morning and she looks to be a nice mover, so keeping an eye on this 3yo filly.

*since won a Apr 26 jump out over over 1200m ahead of Launch Pad (record of 8: 1-3-3).

OTHER RUNNERS - NSW

Canterbury, Race 1

#1 AMBASSADORS (3) - Peter & Paul Snowden

Apr 19 (Randwick [Soft7]) - this 2yo Zoustar colt looked to have a lovely big stride as he closed off super to finish a close 0.8L 2nd, but will be mindful that the winner clocked the slowest 1050m time of the morning at 1:05.80s vs day’s average of 1:04.58s - his first trial back on Jan 13 over 780m on the synthetic saw him closer well too, taking ground off Richon late who has since ran 2nd in a MDN and was 5.68L off Sejardan in the Group 2 Todman - lovely mover despite the slow time, he’s one to watch for another trial (hopefully).

OUR THOUGHTS

Warrnambool, Race 2

LIFE LESSONS brings in a clearly superior rating to the rest of the field from her debut 2nd to Fuller where she put a 7L gap on 3rd. The run rated -6.8, which is the best last start rating and the best peak rating of the race where a repeat of that performance would see her win this. We had her marked as an 'Other' BlackBook runner prior to debut where she looks like she's going to be hard to beat here.

The second best last start rating is +6.8 from HOLLYWOOD SIREN, who has jumped out well ahead of her return as we have noted.

TOREGENE is on debut, coming from NZ and Matthew Williams often targets the Warrnambool carnival - with a pair of jump out wins over 1000m and 1200m, the 1400m looks a perfect kick off point for this filly with Jamie Kah booked to ride. We received the following Voice Update.

Finding it hard to get LIFE LESSONS beat, who's our on-top selection, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise to see either TOREGENE or HOLLYWOOD SIREN win. Even EGYPTIAN ICON with that last start 2nd to Illation isn't without a chance. Tough race with a few chances, we'll sit this one out - it's also a Soft7 so not entirely keen to get involved at Warrnambool - would love to see the locals keep winning.
