BlackBook - Wednesday, 15 September 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Wednesday, 15 September 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. Our figures and benchmark ratings are from PuntingForm.

BENDIGO - Race 1

#9 MORNINGTON GLORY (9) - M Laurie

MORNINGTON GLORY is smart. We thought he closed really well in his official trial on Aug 9 despite sitting off the speed and running into trouble in the straight. He had no room to go at all before coming wide, being asked to respond and responding superbly to close really well, similar to Daily Bugle who followed him. The 3yo colt then backed that up with a super win in Heat 9 on Aug 17 where he took up the lead and was just too good in recording a several length win in slick time. He is a half-brother to the stallion Needs Further and is out of the mare Crowned Glory who was 2nd in the Golden Slipper herself. Very keen for him to make his debut on the back of these jump outs and that breeding.

BENDIGO - Race 8

OTHER

Massive win by #5 VILLA SARCHI in Heat 3 on Aug 25, clocking slick time in the process as he led from start to finish. Goes well first up (5 : 2-0-1) and expect him to pop up in a country maiden having switched over to George Osborne form Busuttin & Young. Another that could pop up at a big price, potentially in a BM64 but most likely a BM70.

OUR THOUGHTS / BETS

Bendigo, Race 1 - MORNINGTON GLORY

Very keen here - should just win and then go off to a lot better races than this. He's a paid up first acceptor for the Caulfield Guineas and is already $201 into $61.

Dangers wise, FOTURI brings the clear best peak figure and looks the main danger while SPIRIT OF PEPIN brings the best last start figure from a run behind the impressive Fire. Thought MAGIC CITY's latest trial was pretty good, closed well from the back. Other three runners won't get close.

Opened up at $2.40 early on TAB and has been well backed. Think he just wins and keen to be playing. Expect him to start closer to $1.50 so if you can get $2+, definitely dive into that. Otherwise, $1.75-$1.80 still looks overs to us.

Bendigo, Race 8 - VILLA SARCHI

Actually brings in the best peak benchmark rating, which came back in April 2020 when 2nd in a BM78 to Buffalo River, who's now Group 1 placed. Recent form hasn't been quite as good though and will need to improve on that as he resumes for his first start with George Osborne. Currently $26 so worth a tiny spec at odds (if any bet at all) - minimal confidence.
