BlackBook - Wednesday, 2 June 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Wednesday, 2 June 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting.

SANDOWN - Race 1

#6 OCEAN'S JEN (6) - D Arnold

OCEAN’S JEN super. A very comfortable win for the 3yo filly in Heat 14 on Apr 19 (blue), after making up 5-6L around the bend and in the straight to then win by a further 3-4L. This backs up some previous nice work for Doug Arnold - she finished 3rd on Mar 22 to Winsum and Marcoura over 800m and then was an eye catcher over 990m on Apr 6 in an official trial when making ground easily on the likes of Jaffastock and Nikau Spur. A full sister to Ocean’s Thirteen, she is travelling really well ahead of her return and very keen to follow. Might need more than the 1200m or so first up so one we can follow into this prep if she doesn’t win first up.

OCEAN’S JEN trotted in Heat 13 on May 17 over the 1200m with Address Melbourne a decent margin back in 2nd. She just needs to get to the races now and should be very hard to beat. Her Apr 19 jump out was super over 1000m too - big fan of this filly.

With odds around the $6.50/$2.00 mark, she looks a good E/W bet.

SANDOWN - Race 2

#8 MAC 'N' CHEESE (9) - T & C McEvoy

Very hard to not get excited here. The half-sister to Exceedence and recently Oxley Road was a smart winner of Heat 3 on May 3 (orange and purple), MAC ’N’ CHEESE. Her first Apr 19 jump out saw her drop to last, travel wide throughout and then hit the line under a super strong hold to finish 3rd. This jump out was much of the same, settling last but then working into it slowly before making a run down the middle of the track and being way too classy late. A $300k Gold Coast yearling purchase with this sort of breeding to add to some super jump outs, she’s an exciting 2yo talent for the McEvoy yard.

Finished 2nd on debut to All About Eve, who has since ran 2nd in a HCP race at Caulfield on Saturday - 1.5L gap back to 3rd. Will certainly appreciate the step up from 1100m to 1400m but the $2.30 looks a bit thin. Waiting for closer to the jump and looking for closer to $3.

SANDOWN - Race 4

OTHER

#7 IKNEWSHEWASMINE travelled super throughout to win Heat 1.

#8 NENEKA was really good when winning ahead of star 4yo KINANE in Heat 6. The 5yo mare (Neneka) travelled beautifully under a strong hold throughout the heat, moving super (she didn’t get out of first gear) and will be very competitive in a BM64/BM70 first up. She goes alright.

SANDOWN - Race 6

OTHER

The 5yo mare #7 BE AMAZING bolted in Heat 5 over 1000m. She was simply way too good but is must be noted that 2nd and 3rd were both Freedman 2yo’s.

#16 MAYBE THE BEST showed a really nice acceleration at multiple stages throughout Heat 5 on Apr 26 (red with white sleeves), getting up to finish 2nd to the smart Titan Blinders. The worry is the starts of this filly, being slowly away in a Apr 14 jump out as well as this heat. This heat in particular though, she settled last on the rail and got her way through traffic before attacking the line late and sprinting away from a couple of other handy ones. She was in front past the line too… handy bit of work for an un-raced 3yo filly. A $200k Easter Yearling purchase in 2019, these were very encouraging jump outs despite the tardy starts.

A BlackBook runner prior to her debut and she didn't disappoint, a big 3L+ win. One to beat here.

SANDOWN - Race 7

OTHER

We've been following #9 BERMADEZ since his debut and see no reason to jump off now.

A big run first up when coming from last to win. Sticks at 1400m, will be fitter and D Oliver jumps back on board (rode on debut). Poor barrier but excited to see where he can get to in his career - looks talented. $4+ looks a good bet.

HAPPY VALLEY - Race 2

OTHER

Fresh off a super 2nd at Flemington, THE INEVITABLE was 2nd in Heat 2. Think it’s worth keeping a note of the winner, an unnamed and unraced Payne horse under the breeding REWARD FOR EFFORT x BALLYMOON. Keep an eye out for the name of this horse.

This horse was sold to Hong Kong and make his debut as #4 COLOSSALE for J Size.

Jumped out in Aus for Patrick Payne prior to being sold. Beat The Inevitable in a jump out, which would've been super form for a maiden in Aus. Makes Hong Kong debut here and has had a lot of trials in preparation.

If a big price, might be worth a small bet.
