All NSW #BlackBook runners are 'other' runners.
CRANBOURNE - Race 1
OTHER
As a colt, #2 HENESTROSA has a very noticeable 2nd in a trial on Nov 30 to Profiteer, but he didn’t get to races. He was put away and then returned for another pair of jump outs and trials, again not getting to the races. Gelded, the 2yo has returned to finish 2nd on Jun 24 and in Heat 8 on Jul 6 (blue). He travelled well throughout here, despite being wide and looks to be one that might go alright.
With the undefeated colt Generation in 3rd, #9 MAIORI (1st) and XTRA GEAR (2nd) looked just as comfortable as they hit the line alongside each other in Heat 1 on Jul 12 with a decent gap to 4th.
CRANBOURNE - Race 2
#1 COOLSHOT (5) - J McArdle
COOLSHOT featured in our reviews back on Nov 4 where he bolted in over 1000m before a Dec 15 trial when 2nd behind Just Malcolm. Put away after these, the 3yo gelding returned to win Heat 8 on Jun 30 over 900m ahead of the 10-start maiden French Boss. He led the whole way here in a bit of work that was encouraging to see for his return. He’s out of the mare Serene Star who won multiple Handicap and Listed races at Caulfield over 1100m/1200m and loved the wet with 9 starts on Heavy for 5 wins and 2 placings. Looking for another jump out, but keen to follow him into his debut - especially on a wet track over 1100m or so as the wet should be no worries.
COOLSHOT an easy pick for performer of the day (and maybe even the week). He bolted in to win Heat 9 on Jul 14 by lengths and ran a really good time - he’s clocked 1:07.02s, which is the third fastest time of the day by 0,25s, but he’s ran this on a deteriorating track where the times got considerably slower later in the day (besides his). His Jun 30 was also super and he’s a must follow into his debut - he has talent.
#4 MAJOR IMPACT (6) - E Jusufovic
MAJOR IMPACT jumped out under his breeding (REAL IMPACT x MADISON PARK) on Dec 7 (3rd) and May 24 (2nd) and looked nice. Given a bit of time again, he took out Heat 10 on Jul 12 in impressive fashion while clocking the second fastest time of the morning behind stablemate Miss Albania. He looks to be a gelding with some talent and keen to hopefully follow him into a debut. The last time we saw a EJ trained gelding that was solely owned by Mr C Hutchison, he was sold to Hong Kong (Fink Tank).
Glad we waited - 3 of our 5 runners were scratched and it leaves us with just the two runners in COOLSHOT and MAJOR IMPACT.
Have leant towards COOLSHOT but MAJOR IMPACT is a close second pick. Thought BROWNIE was okay in her jump outs but no standout, looks the third pick of the bunch. SMUG SISTER will go forward and has the race fitness and experience, but don't thinning she has the same talent.
Either backing COOLSHOT and saving on MAJOR IMPACT to breakeven, or backing both for an even return.
CRANBOURNE - Race 5
OTHER
#6 TRUE PATRIOT impressive. The 3yo gelding has now had four jump outs, all a month apart. A quiet jump out on Mar 15 where he closed well but was beaten a long way, was followed by another quite trail on Apr 6 where he was only beaten by 1-2L by Safeeya (since 4th BM70 and 2x 2nd in BM64’s). His latest two saw win and beat home Gaga’s Belle on May 3 before this impressive win in Heat 11 on Jun 7. He sat in behind the speed here, waited for the gap to open up in the straight and then lengthened out nicely to win by several lengths over the 1000m. Working well and we can follow.
TRUE PATRIOT again impressive, winning Heat 3 on Jun 28 over 990m by several lengths in nice time. The un-raced 3yo should be very (!) competitive on debut.
Was disappointing on debut despite the market support, however, will be better up to 1300m, goes to grass now (maybe didn't like the synthetic) and the blinkers come off. Can't jump off after only bad run. Happy to back at $5+, probably on an E/W basis.
CRANBOURNE - Race 8
OTHER
#2 HYDRO STAR won Heat 14 on Jul 7 well. His one start as a gelding had him pulling up lame, so we can forgive that. First up last prep he was 3rd in a BM78 at Flemington before failing in a CL1 and a BM64 (lame) after. Would expect him to go to a Wednesday meeting first up. If we can get a CL1 or a BM64, he’s worth following as he has always had talent but yet to reach his expectations.
KEMBLA GRANGE - Race 2
#4 SINGLE TONITE - John O'Shea (11)
Jun 21 (Randwick (Synthetic)) - quickest of the day and best L600m - sat last throughout, came wide in the straight and went to line under own steam, nice return despite the poor last prep form.
KEMBLA GRANGE - Race 4
#6 FLYING SQUAD (4) - Gwenda Markwell
Jul 13 (Kembla Grange) - had a tough run out wide but still had a bit left in the tank to run over the top of Paper Daisy in the third fastest time of the morning at 47.45s (one of only three sub-48s times) and the third fastest L600m - can go well first up.
Scratched from Randwick on Wednesday to go here instead with Keagan Latham sticking from the trial. Happy to have a bet at the $7+ available.
