BlackBook - Thursday, 2 June 2022

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Thursday, 2 June 2022. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. Our figures and benchmark ratings are from PuntingForm.

ECHUCA - Race 1

OTHER

Keeping an eye on #6 MISS MAMBA. The 3yo filly debuted for Josh Julius back in October but finished a disappointing 7th of 9 ($21 SP) where she was then spelled. She jumped out for Archie Alexander on Apr 13 when 2nd to regular jump out star Miss Cumberland while defeating Moon Yanco (since 2nd MDN) and then again in Heat 9 on Apr 29 where the big grey just cruised to the line in 4th place. She might be one to spec at a price as she looks to be a nice mover.

*has since had a jump out on May 24 when 3rd.

#12 TOROLINA has put 2x jump out wins on the board now and is certainly moving as if she can win a maiden this prep. Her win over the 1000m in Heat 8 on May 27 should really top her off for the first up run following her May 18 win over 850m ahead of What A Sham, albeit ridden out and pushed. She was very hit and miss last prep, finishing last in her first 2x career runs before having a freshen up and trial where she resumed to finish 9th of 11 before a big run for 3rd at $31 and then finishing last again before a spell. She seems to be jumping out better this prep though, winning this heat in the second fastest 1000m time of the morning behind Rainbiel, so she’s likely going to be worth a spec at a big price first up (and likely second up).

ECHUCA - Race 6

OTHER

The one that really caught the eye in Heat 2 on May 11 was #9 KEW PLAYER. The 4yo gelding jumped well but was restrained to go back, overracing as a result. Over the concluding stages though, he was allowed to stride out more and really extended, making up ground in a quick heat and doing his best work past the line where he was in front comfortably. He showed a nice turn of foot in last weeks 1000m jump out on May 4 and think he can go on with it in his second Aus prep.

ECHUCA - Race 8

OTHER

#13 WHAT A SHAM is unlucky not to have a second career win just yet, placing on 8x occasions to go with her 1x win in 11x starts. She finished a very close 2nd in Heat 19 on May 18 over the 850m, closing well late as she usually does. This heat was also the second fastest 850m time of the morning. Last start she was 3rd to Crackhorn (since 2nd in BM64) and Riddlero (since 2nd in Albury Guineas before winning a BM58 and BM64), which is good form and worth following when she gets back to the races, she can just be hard to trust with her racing pattern.

BLACKBOOK SUMMARY

Runners

Confidence - Comments

Echuca, Race 1

#6 MISS MAMBA (1) - J Julius

Low/Medium - worth a small bet, likely drifts from the $23 available this morning.

#12 TOROLINA (3) - B Dunn

Low/Medium - low confidence spec at SP, the sub-$10 seems a touch short considering her form despite some nice JO's.

Echuca, Race 6

#9 KEW PLAYER (4) - D & C Feek

Low/Medium - looks more like one to follow 2UP as he gets out to 1400m but can run well today - E/W chance at a nice price ($15/$3.50) and we can't let him go around without a bet on.

Echuca, Race 8

#13 WHAT A SHAM (11) - P Payne

Low/Medium - barrier is a big worry and not sure how she handles the Heavy, but can run well.
