BlackBook - Sunday, 8 August 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Sunday, 8 August 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. All NSW #BlackBook runners are 'other' runners.

BENDIGO - Race 1

In her first jump out back, #9 VILANCULOS matched motors with the 67-rated White Hibiscus late when finishing 2nd in Heat 13. Her first preparation ended in an Oaks run where she failed to finish, but her runs leading up to that were good without winning. She’ll get over a bit of distance, getting better over 1600m+. Following for another jump out first.

We don't usually re-list BlackBook runners that are third up, but this (now) 4yo mare only had 1 Jump Out prior to resuming and will now be peaking third up as she steps up to 2400m and drops back to maiden grade. Should be winning this, happy to take $2+.

BENDIGO - Race 2

#8 OBFUSCATION (15) - M Price & M Kent Jnr

OBFUSCATION looks to have a nice turn of foot. The half-brother to Hai Sun is part-owned by Mick Price and has put in a couple of nice jump out performances, winning a Jul 6 (yellow) jump out prior to his win in Heat 2 on Jul 13. Liked the way he moved, especially once he’s asked for an effort where he really looks as though he responds. Nice mover and looks to have some talent.

OBFUSCATION turn of foot was on show again, taking out Heat 6 on Jul 20. As we said after his previous jump out, he looks talented and can win on debut.

OTHER

In their first jump outs, #6 LAURION and the Hann filly (EXTREME CHOICE x AURA D’ORO) put in nice performances to finish 1st and 2nd in Heat 7 on Jul 6. The Hann filly sat on speed and put in a good run travelling out wide, while #6 LAURION was away slowly before closing super down the middle of the track. We want to be following both, expect another bit of work before they debut.

#6 LAURION was previously mentioned after making good ground in a Jul 20 jump out, and he was untested in when 2nd in Heat 3 on Jul 20. It’s hard to get a gauge though as he’s up against un-raced horses or horses with minimal/ordinary form. Keep an eye out first up and watching any market leads.

Very disappointed that THE DUKE OF DUBAI isn't running here - think he is a smart horse. The Price & Kent yard might also have a smart one on their hands with OBFUSCATION nominated for the Caulfield Guineas as well.

Backing OBFUSCATION and saving on LAURION at a big price ($26+) to breakeven.

BENDIGO - Race 3

#15 GRINZINGER KNIGHT made his debut back in Feb where he was slowly away, finishing 4L off Lightsaber. Immediately put away, the 2yo colt returned in Heat 9 on Jul 16 where he was also slowly away (which is a bit of a worry) but looked to do it well as he hit the line, making good ground past the line as well. Keen to follow.

Looks an E/W bet.
