BENALLA - Race 1
#4 HYDERABAD looks as though he’s a nice mover and is one to follow after his 2nd in Heat 5 on Jul 9. Only this gelding’s first jump out after a pair of jump outs in March earlier this year. On the watch list.
On the watch list after a Jul 9 jump out, now #4 HYDERABAD is a must follow on debut as the 2yo gelding just cruised to the line behind the winner (talented 3yo Invincible Jet) in Heat 18 on Jul 23 as they clocked a slick time, the second fastest of the day. He was a $560k purchase and looks to move with class. Nice gelding.
#11 VILLADEN closed well from the back in a trial in NSW on Jul 9 over 1050m, making the trip down to VIC with a jump out win in Heat 1 on Sep 3 (black and white with purple sleeves) with the 3yo gelding having a nice run along the rail and holding off Office Jim with Stay Gold out wide. He was a $220k purchase and is a full-brother to the very talented Young Werther and could be on a Derby path himself…
BENALLA - Race 2
#13 JOSEYLIN (12) - B & JD Hayes
JOSEYLIN backed up her super Aug 20 (red) synthetic win with a very easy win in Heat 9 on Aug 27 (white). She had a pair of jump out wins back in April but didn’t get to the races, potentially being saved for the spring? She’s led all of her jump outs and expect that to be no different when she goes back to the races, where she looks like she’ll be very competitive - travelling super.
MORNINGTON - Race 2
Caroline Jennings has made the move to Flemington and she wasted no time making her mark with #10 PLUCKY PIROUETTE a very impressive winner of Heat 6 on Sep 10. The 4yo mare sat wide on speed before pulling away late to win by a good margin on Sliders, who has some speed herself. Nice win.
OUR THOUGHTS / BETS
Benalla, Race 1 - HYDERABAD & VILLADEN
Pretty much the same field as Friday but with another key scratching of GOLDEN MONKEY - leaves this as a race between VILLADEN and HYDERABAD.
HYDERABAD bringing in the best last start benchmark ratings and stepping up to 1400m here, which will suit. Suspect he will get back again and be running on late. VILLADEN has had some nice jump outs and always have to respect the Chris Waller yard on debut.
We won't be outlaying a lot on this race, but happy to take the $2.40 on TopSport available for VILLADEN and save on HYDERABAD around the $3.50 mark.
Benalla, Race 2 - JOSEYLIN
Very disappointed she didn't run on Friday for those with the big price. We now have to take sub-$3 and it's pretty much the same field.
She brings in the best last start benchmark rating and we're happy to give her a second chance now second up after some super jump outs prior to her resumption. Happy to see Fly On Bye run well at Cranbourne on Thursday, likewise Topeka. She's the one to beat and happy to be on her - think she wins.
Mornington, Race 2 - PLUCKY PIROUETTE
First up 1500m, expect her to get better over further this preparation. Can win, but not getting involved today.
