CAULFIELD - Race 2
#5 JACQUINOT (13) - M Price & M Kent Jnr
JACQUINOT was the most impressive of the 2yo’s, taking out Heat 3 on Dec 6 in a very slick time that was ~1s quicker than the other two 2yo heats for the morning. The 2yo colt is out of an un-raced Pierro mare that’s a full-sister to the Group 2 winning Dragon Leap. This only being his first jump out, it was a nice bit of work.
JACQUINOT now can’t have been more impressive in his two jump outs. As mentioned last week, he took out a Dec 6 jump out in very slick time and has now backed that up with a very slick several length win in Heat 2 on Dec 13, again recording a nice time that was almost 2s quicker than the other 2YO heat on the day. He was passed in at $90k at the 2021 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sales with a reserve of $120k, out of an un-raced sister to some handy gallopers in Dragon Leap and the Group 1 winning Inference. He looks to be very talented and if he brings to the races anything like he’s been bringing to the jump outs, then we’d expect him to go well on debut.
CAULFIELD - Race 8
OTHER
The superstar undefeated mare #17 MARABI was back to the jump outs, taking out Heat 3 on Dec 13 in slick time with ease, as you would expect from a horse of her calibre. The horse she beat by 7L first up in a BM70 came out and won a BM64 (being Savannah Cloud), so there’s no doubt she’s talented and if she continues going through her grades, then doubt she loses anytime soon.
OTHER RUNNERS AROUND AUS
Doomben, Race 6 - COOLANGATTA
Dec 7 (Randwick) - very very good - not hard to see/find, but a 2yo filly defeating the older 3yo’s this early in the season is a very good sign, especially how easily she did it - untouched while the rest of the field were pushed out - full steam ahead to the Magic Millions and she will be very (!) hard to beat if she gets there.
Beaumont, Race 5 - TIDAL CREEK
Dec 14 (Rosehill) - 4.68L win over the 1030m in 1:01.94s, which was quicker than Beau Rossa’s 1:02.09s in the previous heat - he jumped well from the widest barrier, pushed forward to sit outside the leader before really responding to the riding of Jason Collett to win with ease and quite impressively - his previous two jump outs were terrible though, finishing last in both so one to tread carefully with.
Beaumont, Race 5 - KING ADVISO
Dec 16 (Warwick Farm) - was away only fairly but very quickly mustered a lot of early speed to bolt to the front by several lengths before coming back a little and then bolting away as he was asked for an effort approaching the turn - he very quickly put several lengths on them and very easily put the 7.87L winning margin, all while clocking the fastest 1205m time of the 4x heats - his previous trial over 1050m was poor but it looked as though the blinkers going on here really fired him up.
OUR THOUGHTS
Caulfield, Race 2
THE SWOOPER moved well to win jump outs on Dec 10 and Dec 17. The Dec 17 jump out won in 50.21s while THESECONDATPORSEA won Heat 10 on the same day in 49.81s - she also moved well in a Dec 6 jump out. Of the raced ratings wise, COVER STAR brings in the best rating at +8.9 followed by JAMARRA at +11.4, QUEEN LATIFA at +11.8 and EMRYS at +13.4. GOLDEN QUEEN's debut rated +15.4.
Can't knock our runner, JACQUINOT's jump outs at all. He has looked super in all of his jump outs - the only query is on barrier 13 of 14, which is going to be a bit to overcome. In saying that, he looks to have enough speed and talent to overcome and we can have a low/medium confidence bet on him.
OUR BETS
As a rule of thumb, our new 'units' system will be based on the following staking plan:
0.25 units is a speculation ('spec') bet at a bigger price.
0.50 units to 1.00 units is a low confidence bet.
1.00 units to 2.00 units is a medium confidence bet.
2.50 units to 3.00 units is a high confidence bet.
5.00 units is the maximum bet and is a 'special', or a very high confidence bet.
Total outlay is 1.00 units.
