BlackBook - Sunday, 24 July 2022

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Sunday, 24 July 2022. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. Our figures and benchmark ratings are from PuntingForm.

SALE - Race 1

OTHER

#4 IVAN’S HERO looks a 2yo colt to monitor. He cruised out the back in a previous Jun 10 jump out before closing well under a hold late, running past Hoofs Don't Lie (since 3rd behind Thron Bone and Ghaanati at Caulfield) quite comfortably and finished a very close 2nd. He sat more on speed in Heat 2 on Jul 1, again cruising to the line and again finishing a close 2nd and also liked his work past the line. This son of Holler moves well.

SALE - Race 3

OTHER

He’s got race fitness, but #5 NATION PRIDE bolted in Heat 9 on Jun 20 over the 850m having come down from Richard Freedman’s stables in NSW. The 3yo Shalaa colt has had the 2x starts this prep, losing by a combined 1L when 3rd and 2nd on Heavy tracks over 1200m at both runs, so he’s been quite competitive and owners will certainly be hoping Price & Kent can get that maiden win, plus some more. Suspect he might be better over a bit more distance, being out of the mare Just Dancing who won a Group 2 over 1400m and was Group 1 placed in the 2000m Arrowfield and 4th in the ATC Oaks over 2400m. A colt to monitor first up in VIC.

#6 PERUSAL won his Jun 9 jump out over 800m well but was very green in doing so. His last 100m or so in that jump out was quite impressive. As a result, the nose roll went on for his win in Heat 2 on Jun 22 as he stepped up to 1000m and while he was green again, his last 200m or so was impressive. He needs to work on his racing matters, but there does look to be some talent there for this 3yo gelding.

*has since finished 2nd in an offical trial on Jul 4 behind impressive 2yo Cadazio.

Confidence - Comments

Sale, Race 1

#4 IVAN'S HERO (2) - C Waller

Medium.

He's a good winning chance here and happy to be with him. Didn't think Hennessy Lad's JO's were much chop, but the market loves Moody gallopers (for some reason) and we're happy to be against. The dangers are Whiskey Hangover and Exonumia with the race experience, but our colt has JO'd super and should go close here.

Sale, Race 3

#5 NATION PRIDE (6) - M Price & M Kent Jnr

Medium.

Looks very well placed here now for his second VIC run, and fourth run this prep stepping up to 1400m. He's got a race fitness and experience edge on a few of these + nice form from last run (around Read, Nicconi Express and Only Human). Should get a lovely from barrier 4 with the blinkers on and is the one to beat. Backing him.

#6 PERUSAL (13) - M Laurie

Low/Medium.

He's the saver bet to Nation Pride.
