HAMILTON - Race 1
#9 TRUE NOBILITY (9) - P Chow
Really good jump out in Heat 6 on Sep 21 from TRUE NOBILITY. The 3yo gelding was away okay but didn’t quite have the early speed, dropping back to near last and a good 5-6L off the leader, travelling under a strong hold out the back of the pack. In the straight is where he did his best work though, closing superbly as he weaved through the field to finish within 1L of the winner despite never been asked to fully extend - it looked as though he was in front past the line. Immediately spelled after a disappointing debut as a 2yo back in May, he looks to have come back in really nice order as a 3yo.
HAMILTON - Race 2
#3 CORRETTO (15) - T Dabernig
CORRETTO is a 4yo import from NZ, coming over here following 3 runs for 3 placings. He jumped super in Heat 5 on Sep 14 and went straight to the front, travelling beautifully under a strong hold and even extended away late to win the 880m jump out in the fastest time of the morning. The gelding was a $160k purchase at the NZ Karaka Sales and is a huge watch first up in Australia. This was super.
CORRETTO is smart and would be surprised if he doesn’t win (or go very close to winning) first up in Aus. His win in Heat 4 on Sep 27 was super, clocking the clear fastest time of the morning. He jumped straight to the front here, showing superior early speed and then when given a push int he straight, he really responded and was clearly a class above even with the 71-rated Garvoc in 2nd and Ironedge in 3rd. We loved his Sep 14 jump out as well and super keen for him to make his Australian debut.
OUR THOUGHTS / BETS
Caulfield, Race 1
Hamilton, Race 1 - TRUE NOBILITY
With PATRIOTIC KING scratched, it leaves us with TRUE NOBILITY who was scratched from a race last week on the wet track and now resumes here with barrier 5 after scratchings. He's only had the one jump out, so a slight query on fitness but it was a super jump out.
The worry is WANAROO who has some nice form on the board and looks hard to beat. At $8.50/$2.20 (TopSport), we can have an E/W bet - not a lot of confidence but think he can run well.
Hamilton, Race 2 - CORRETTO
He couldn't have drawn any worse for his Australian debut with barrier 13 of 14 (after scratchings) on the tight turning Hamilton track but his jump outs were simply super. It's certainly worth noting that Blaike Macdougal is riding â…” of Tom Dabernig's runners at Hamilton, the only one he's not riding is CORRETTO as he was on DENIRRA before she got scratched.
Think CORRETTO should just win this, the worry is his price. Currently $1.70, we'll wait for closer to the jump to hopefully get $1.80 to $2 late but don't think he'll get out that far. Confident he wins though and want to be on.
