Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Saturday, 7 August 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. All NSW #BlackBook runners are 'other' runners.
BAIRNSDALE - Race 2
#2 LETHAL ENCOUNTER (4) - A Rae
LETHAL ENCOUNTER bolted in Heat 7 on Jul 19. The 3yo gelding sat just off speed along the fence, cruised up to the lead before being given a push at the 200m mark where he then opened up a big gap and won comfortably with the jockey looking over the shoulder as he crossed the line. He was 2nd in a Jun 15 jump out and 3rd in a Jul 7 trial to Hydro Star, but the blinkers went on today and they looked to really switch him on. A son of Squamosa, it was no surprise to see him handle the wet track here.
He ran 50.47s with the 2nd horse (Landers) since coming out to finish 2nd in a maiden at Moe. Good E/W bet here.
BAIRNSDALE - Race 3
#3 DARING FEELING (3) - J Warren & D Krongold
DARING FEELING had the previous maiden winner Dream Effort covered in a 600m Pakenham jump out on Jun 24, stepping up to 950m in Heat 13 on Jul 7 where he jumped clearly the best, led and kicked under minimal pressure to win by 2.5L in the second fastest time of the morning. Jason Warren is one of only three owners of this gelding and expect him to lead and be hard to beat in a maiden on debut.
#5 OURLINK (9) - G Bedggood
OURLINK jumped beautifully in Heat 8 on Jul 12, took up the lead along the outside rail where the 3yo gelding never looked like being beat. He clocked a nice time for the morning as well whilst winning by a good margin. He was just okay on debut in December last year when with Sarah Zschoke, resuming here for Gavin Bedggood having been given time. Expect another jump out before resuming in a maiden where we’ll be keen to follow.
Only issue is his May 24 (last) was poor and his May 31 was just fair. Blinkers looked to go for this latest jump out though so maybe they have really switched him on. Would've liked to see another bit of work though, having had 1 jump out on July 12.
DARING FEELING is the one to beat here. Should lead from barrier 3 and be hard to chase down. OURLINK at least a saver. Going 3u DARING FEELING and 1u OURLINK saver to breakeven.
RANDWICK - Race 8
#10 CHILL (3) - Anthony Cummings
Jul 27 (Randwick) - super - jumped well but went back before weaving her way through the field to close super while under a hold from Tommy Berry - very good return and very good trial - keen to see another bit of work but regardless, keen to follow into her resumption.
Tommy Berry rode in the trial but is riding the smart Remarque here. Tough race for a 4-start maiden to win first up.
#5 MAOTAI (10) - Kacy Fogden
Jul 30 (Rosehill) - super win in fastest time of morning and fastest L600m - won by 5.5L, looks talented.
#2 MAZU (9) - Peter & Paul Snowden
Jul 9 (Randwick (Soft7)) - clocked the fastest 735m time of the morning - well bred colt who was last seen finishing 3rd in a GRP 3 behind Shaquero - looks smart but expect to see him in town.
Same as CHILL (above), Tommy Berry rode in the trial but is riding the smart Remarque here.
Doubt any of these beat Remarque so it's hard to have a play. Maybe CHILL at a huge $126+ for a place.
NEWCASTLE - Race 4
#10 MONTE DRIFTER (2) - Mark Newnham
Jul 6 (Warwick Farm (Synthetic)) - fastest time of the morning and fastest L600m - super turn of foot when given a shake up after sitting just of the leaders - poor form on board but change of trainer could spark some improvement?
