HORSHAM - Race 1
#10 TYCOON’S GIRL started $2.20 on debut and was terribly, finishing last by 5.8L. There was nothing in the vet report, but she was spelled immediately so there is no doubt she performed well below expectations. The daughter of Written Tycoon returned to lead all the way in Heat 5 on Mar 29 in a nice bit work in her return, so she’s certainly one to monitor first up this prep as you’d expect an improved run on that debut.
*she has since won a jump out on Apr 11, ridden out to win ahead of subsequent winner Tequila Storm - not keen to back at sub-$2*
HORSHAM - Race 7
#8 DANAUSTAR has now been gelded and won like a nice horse in Heat 13 on Apr 21. The 3yo gelding jumped super to lead along the rail before kicking away and going to the line under a strong hold with a lot more to give. He had a previous jump out on Apr 7, but this bit of work was clearly more impressive and showed he might be one that can go through the grades as a gelding.
#12 MISS BALVENIE won Heat 5 on Apr 4 very convincingly, leading from start to finish but clearly doing her best work late as she extended away. This was her third jump out back this prep having previously won a 1000m jump out on Mar 17 ahead of Lunatic Fringe (since 4th in BM70). She bolted in on debut by 5L but couldn’t quite replicate that second up before a spell. She’s returned in nice order.
SANDOWN - Race 1
#2 COSMIC AURA is going to be an interesting one on debut. His win in Heat 2 on Apr 11 was nothing short of super, kicking away in the straight under minimal jockey pressure to record a massive win in 51.5s, which was above the days average of 51.67s. His official trial 9-weeks prior to this on Feb 7 was poor though, so it’s hard to get a real gauge on him. Wouldn’t surprise us to see him have another jump out, which would be preferred, but he’s one to keep in mind.
SANDOWN - Race 5
The 3yo filly #12 ALLEGRETTA matched motors with the 98-rated (and race fit) Sansom in Heat 1 on Apr 12 as they clocked the fastest 1000m time of the morning. She made a nice return to the race last preparation when breaking her maiden, but was disappointing second up at Caulfield when 9th to Lady Of Honour. She likely has only this jump out before heading back to the races and this was a nice bit of work in her return.
