BlackBook - Saturday, 29 May 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Saturday, 29 May 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting.

ECHUCA - Race 1

#7 MIRACLE DAY (15) - R Hickmott

Surprised MIRACLE DAY is still a maiden. A previous feature of our reviews as previous star trialler, his win of Heat 3 (red, blue and white) in the clear fastest time of the morning was no surprise. In his latest run when 3rd, the 2nd horse (Sun Samurai) came out and won his maiden by 1L, so the form is there. This 3yo has a maiden win in him and it should be right around the corner.

Barrier 15 a big worry, especially over only 1000m. Not too sure where he gets to in the run but at his best, he should be going very close to winning this.

#8 RATTLE AND BANG (1) - D Binaisse

RATTLE AND BANG made his debut with Craig Williams on board in a pretty handy Moonee Valley race that was won by Written Beauty. He was immediately spelled and now potentially gelded as the 3yo returned to take out Heat 13 on Apr 14 (black) with ease, leading from start to finish while never being asked for an effort. He was clearly a class above this lot and clocked nice time for the morning. His first jump out back, so improvement to come still and think he has the talent to win a maiden very early this coming preparation.

RATTLE AND BANG with another nice jump out in Heat 1 (black). He showed nice early speed to lead and travelled well, despite being ridden out late but he did cross the line with some handy horses in Felicia, Bumper Blast and Rox The Castle. Quickest time of the morning by over 0.5s too. Huge watch first up.

Second up now after running a nice 2nd to Prince Of Mercia, who then ran 4th in a BM64 at Sandown on Wednesday. Barrier 1 is super, he'll go straight to the front and will take some catching.

OTHER

#12 LADY CUMBERLAND a super 1000m jump out win in Heat 11 on Apr 27. Resuming off a 9-week let up after finishing a close 2nd on debut with unreal form coming from the race. He was 2nd to Electric Belle who then won a BM58 next start with a 2L+ gap to 3rd being Southern Magnolia who then came out and won a MDN by 2.2L herself. La Spezia was then 4th who came out to finish 2nd, 3rd and 1st in her next three starts in MDN’s. 5th was 8L away (!) and even that runner then came out and was 2nd in MDN in her next start. Super form, super jump out and expect him to go very very close to winning when he resumes for his second career run.

ECHUCA - Race 2

OTHER

The winner of Heat 7, #6 IMPRINTED, is out of the mare Indelible who was 2nd in the SA Oaks back in 2007. Despite being by Written Tycoon, this 3yo colt looks to be better suited over a bit further. Coming off a 6-week freshen up having had two runs at 1200m and 1400m, he looks set to be peaking third up and looks likely to step up to a mile or so. Probably won’t be a big price though having started below $3 in both career runs. One to watch regardless.

CAULFIELD - Race 1

OTHER

#4 SET THE SAILS was a big eye catcher from Heat 5. After being 2nd over 650m on Apr 20 (in a quick heat), the 2yo colt closed super in Heat 5 (pink) after settling to the rear of the field. He was travelling a lot better than the rest of the field late and was under a lot less pressure.

CAULFIELD - Race 3

OTHER

#10 THE GAUCH is a nice gelding, his win in Heat 4 no exception. Having enjoyed a nice spell after pulling up lame start, the 4yo has now also been gelded and will go very close to winning a BM70 first up. If this gelding brings him on, we might see him in some upcoming city races.

EAGLE FARM - Race 9

OTHER

A couple of disappointing runs (finishing position wise) for #2 SIERRA SUE this preparation. Sent out for a let up, returning in an 800m jump out on Apr 26 where she was coming late but her win in Heat 13 over the 1000m was with absolute ease and she ran a really slick time for the day too.
