MILDURA - Race 2
#10 POCKET ROX (2) - K Vella
A half-brother to El Fabio, the son of Brazen Beau in POCKET ROX was a comfortable winner of Heat 2 on Feb 23 (blue with red sleeves) over the 800m. He was aware pretty poor, but mustered up speed to sit on the inside of the field with some cover before coming up the inside along the rail late to win by several lengths. He had plenty of speed late and had more to give as he was pulled up just before the line. Kylie Vella doesn’t generally have 2yo’s going around so if he does debut as a 2yo, expect there to be an opinion of him.
Only had the one jump out back in Feb, not seen since and debuts here for the Vella x Vella combination. Like the look of this. Backing E/W at $5+.
OTHER
#5 HUNKA HUNKA HARRY surely has a maiden win in him soon? He was 2nd on Jun 24 prior to winning Heat 12 on Jul 7 where they gapped 3rd. He’s not getting any younger, but the 5yo's worst finish is 5th and has always been there abouts. Need to find a weak maiden but also will be mindful of price.
Hard to trust, but worth a saver to breakeven if you're going to back at all.
CAULFIELD - Race 4
OTHER
No surprise to see #6 MISS ALBANIA clock the fastest 760m time of the morning, winning Heat 5 on Jun 28 comfortably. She’s a smart mare.
#6 MISS ALBANIA looks to be flying ahead of her return, given a push to win Heat 5 on Jul 12 in the fastest time of the morning.
CAULFIELD - Race 7
#15 HOLT (10) - E Jusufovic
The gelding under the breeding NIGHT OF THUNDER x PARORE was away poorly in a pair of jump outs on Dec 7 and Dec 14, the latest though he was able to muster speed to get up along the rail and lead before finishing 2nd to Glamdam. Much of the same in his return, getting away poorly in Heat 10 on Jul 5 and again mustering speed to get up along the rail and lead, but managing to hold on well over the 760m to win in the fastest time of the morning. Expect to see another jump out, hopefully with him beginning better.
Only two times were sub 50s - one being Jigsaw and the other being HOLT in Heat 9 on Jul 19 who didn’t beat much, but won by a margin in nice time. We mentioned him after a Jul 5 jump out that saw him win well but we noted his poor starts. He was away better in this heat, but wasn’t clean. He jumped about midfield before mustering up the speed to lead and then kicked away in the straight as he was given a couple of reminders from the jockey. He can go well in a maiden on debut.
Tough race to debut in... does get in with 54kg and Carleen Hefel on board with a 3kg claim will bring him down to a very light weight. Can't take the $19+ available in early markets - need a bigger price.
