BALLARAT - Race 1

OTHER

The blinkers went on for #3 ON THE RECORD from her May 4 jump out and they looked to work a treat as she won Heat 11 on May 20 in the fastest time of the morning ahead of previous winner Beldivian. She was beaten 15.2L on debut despite starting $3.60 before pulling up with a throat condition second up and being immediately spelled. The 3yo daughter of Pierro showed a bit here and could be one to watch first up this prep.

BALLARAT - Race 2

OTHER

The interesting runner from Heat 3 on May 20 is #5 CARMEN LUCIA. She debuted at Morphetville when running 2nd to now-Group 1 colt Generation before a spell. She then returned to run last at Geelong in a very disappointing run, again being immediately spelled. She had a bit of a nothing jump out last week on May 13 when 5th of 5, but was much better in this heat as she went to the line alongside Jezoulenko, although not doing it as comfortable. If she gets back to that debut form, she’s a big watch but it’s a big if.

BALLARAT - Race 3

OTHER

#1 SLIPSLOPSLAP clocked the fastest time of the morning when taking out Heat 8 on May 17 comfortably. This was the 4yo gelding first jump out back following a spell after a 4-start prep, being the first of his career. He was 2nd on debut on the synthetic Ballarat track before then failing to place thereafter, so he clearly likes the synthetic and will be one to monitor if he does go to the synthetic first up.

Another win for #1 SLIPSLOPSLAP and it was again in the fastest time of the morning, winning Heat 3 on May 24 following his May 17 win. He went well on the grass here following that synthetic jump out, so he looks to be one that could be competitive first up on either surface. Expecting a decent price and he can be a nice spec bet first up.

BLACKBOOK SUMMARY

Runners

Confidence - Comments

Ballarat, Race 1

#3 ON THE RECORD (6) - A & S Freedman

Low/Medium - not too keen to get involved - if she continues to get out, can entertain a small bet but not outlaying much at all personally.

Ballarat, Race 2

#5 CARMEN LUCIA (7) - B & JD Hayes

Low/Medium - not too keen to get involved at the sub-$3.

Ballarat, Race 3

#1 SLIPSLOPSLAP (1) - M Cunningham

Medium - he's the main winning chance here, but the issue is the price - thought we'd be getting a bit better than ~$2.70 so one to wait until closer to the jump to see if we can get a bit better then.
