BENALLA - Race 1
#9 STAR WALTZ (3) - M Ellerton & S Zahra
STAR WALTZ is a Snitzel half-sister to Group 2 winner Starelle and after a pair of jump outs back in April, she was given a little more time and had the blinkers applied that saw some nice improvement as she took out Heat 1 on Aug 13. She’s got nice breeding and this was a nice bit of work in her return, one for the watch list.
STAR WALTZ was mentioned after an Aug 13 jump out, the filly led them up in Heat 16 on Aug 20 and extended away late to win as she was pushed out. Will be forward enough to go close on debut.
OTHER
Had a bit of an opinion on #5 ISLES OF AVALON before her debut prep that resulted in a 3rd in a Listed race and 3rd in a Group 3, both at Morphetville and both races won by Cloudy. She did lose the rider at the start of her Aug 11 jump out but as a full-sister to Rainbiel, expect her to come back better as a 3yo. Probably expect another bit of work because of the lost rider.
Have ISLES OF AVALON on top and then saving on STAR WALTZ, but very cautious of SURICATE following a Aug 20 jump out win. Wouldn't be surprised if either of these three win as it looks a race between the three - not a race we want to be outlaying heaps on.
Noting that ISLES OF AVALON is the only one of the three nominated for the Thousand Guineas while SURICATE is out a mare that was best over 1600m, so might need further.
