Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Monday, 29 May 2023. All #BlackBook runners come from our weekly reviews and our split into two categories - those that we are betting / playing are summarised in our "BlackBook Runners - Tips Summary" with our confidence and race thoughts, while those we aren't betting / playing are included in our "BlackBook Runners - Watchlist" and are worth keeping in mind if you're playing the race. BALLARAT - Race 2
OTHER
BETTER LINK is the older brother of the one time Blue Diamond favourite in The Instructor and looked as though he had some talent himself as he cruised to the line in 2nd place in Heat 10 on Apr 24. It’s only his first career jump out so one to keep an eye on.
Another lovely bit of work from BETTER LINK. The 3yo son of Better Than Ready caught our eye from a Apr 24 jump out and it was hard to miss his win in Heat 4 on May 9 as he went forward, led throughout and then kicked away over the concluding stages to record a comfortable win, clocking the fastest 990m time of the morning in the process. His stablemate in Proprietary was back in 2nd place and struggling to keep up, which is a positive sign. The older brother to The Instructor, he looks a lovely mover and expect him to be running well on debut.

Pakenham, Race 1 | |
#2 BETTER LINK (4) - G Eurell | High. No surprise to see him very well backed in the early markets ($2.60 into $1.85) as his JO's were super and do like that the recent was on the synthetic that he debuts on here, especially it being over the further 990m rather than the usual 800m JO's. The 3rd horse in that JO was Golden Path, who won by 3L on Thursday night at Pakenham. He's drawn beautifully with barrier 4 and finds a winnable race that lacks some depth - the danger looks to be Royalz who was good at the trials behind Divazou (since 2nd MDN). He'll be hard to beat here and betting accordingly but do understand the odds-on aren't for everyone so if you decide to stay out, won't miss much due to the price. |

STAKING
We know that everyone takes a different approach to their staking, which is why we don't delve into specific staking for each of our runners and we leave how you stake and bet our runners completely up to the individual.
Personally, we have followed different staking systems over the years to fine tune our own punting, but have found that the most profitable approach is to follow a "Collect system".
This system means that the punter (us) bets on the win only (no place bet) to collect 4% of our bank on every BlackBook runner we have. To begin, you need to select a starting bank - as an example, a starting bank of $10,000 will see us betting to collect $400 (4%) on each runner.
If a runner is $2, we will bet $200 @2 to collect $400.
If a runner is $20, we will bet $20 @20 to collect $400.
If a runner is $3.50, we will bet ~$114 @3.50 to collect ~$400.
We highly recommend having a read of the below PDF document from Dan O'Sullivan in regard to the Six Rules to Increase Profit, Staking like a Professional and Punting As An Investment (see here):
