BlackBook - Friday, 3 September 2021

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Friday, 3 September 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. Our figures and benchmark ratings are from PuntingForm.

BENDIGO - Race 1

#4 FLY ON BYE (5) - M & L Kavanagh

FLY ON BYE is travelling really well ahead of his return to the races. He was 2nd to the recent maiden winner Queen Of Dubai on Aug 9 where he was quietly ridden, with the jockey looking over the shoulders as he was eased out. It looked like Jamie Kah was on board in Heat 12 on Aug 20 as the 3yo cruised to the line ahead of Good And Proper and looked as though he had a bit left in the tank. He failed on debut at the Valley behind Crystal Bound, immediately spelled though so suspect this was very short of his best. Keen to follow him as he looks a nice mover.

#11 JOSEYLIN (11) - B & JD Hayes

JOSEYLIN backed up her super Aug 20 (red) synthetic win with a very easy win in Heat 9 on Aug 27 (white). She had a pair of jump out wins back in April but didn’t get to the races, potentially being saved for the spring? She’s led all of her jump outs and expect that to be no different when she goes back to the races, where she looks like she’ll be very competitive - travelling super.

We're keen to back FLY ON BYE and JOSEYLIN for even returns. FIRE is the big danger and deserves to be favourite with he best benchmark rating from his debut. Expect the winner to come from one of these three and happy to play our two blackbooker's to win.

IMMINENT RISK was the Danny O'Brien hard ridden leader in the Aug 20 jump out with FLY ON BYE where we saw FLY ON BYE just cruise past him as if he was standing still.

BENDIGO - Race 2

#7 OBFUSCATION (12) - M Price & M Kent Jnr

OBFUSCATION looks to have a nice turn of foot. The half-brother to Hai Sun is part-owned by Mick Price and has put in a couple of nice jump out performances, winning a Jul 6 (yellow) jump out prior to his win in Heat 2 on Jul 13. Liked the way he moved, especially once he’s asked for an effort where he really looks as though he responds. Nice mover and looks to have some talent.

OBFUSCATION turn of foot was on show again, taking out Heat 6 on Jul 20. As we said after his previous jump out, he looks talented and can win on debut.

Pretty good debut form when 3rd. They gapped 4th by 4.5L and we've seen 2nd (Vilana) come out and win a Wednesday Sandown race where they gapped 3rd by over 4L. The winner (Beldivian) failed in a Listed race second up but did start $5.50 that day.

This looks a very good race second up for him, stepping up to 1300m from the 1100m debut. The only real danger looks to be TREPORTI, but pretty confident that he should just be winning.

ALBURY - Race 6

OTHER

Keen to follow #2 NUKE if he pops up in a BM58 first up. After being away moderately but rocketing forward to the lead, the 6yo gelding bolted in Heat 10 on Aug 18 with the jockey having several looks over the shoulder to see where the rest of the field were. Would need a reasonable price as well.

The 900m looks well short of his best based on previous form (an obvious question mark), but his 1000m trial was super and an Albury BM58 looks right up his alley.

Brings in the best peak figures, but that peak came at 1300m at Sandown in Feb 2021 - just got no idea about the 900m though. Gets into 57.5kg after the claim of H Blanc (who rode in trial) and has drawn well with barrier 6. Had worse $10+ bets so worth having a spec on him to see how he goes.
