BlackBook - Friday, 24 June 2022

Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Friday, 24 June 2022. Our figures and benchmark ratings are from PuntingForm.

BALLARAT - Race 1

OTHER

#2 FINANCE HARLEM makes his way down from NSW with Chris Waller to now be with Tom Dabernig and most importantly, he’s been gelded. He took out Heat 5 on May 23 in the fastest 1000m time of the morning, sitting outside the leader throughout before being put under some pressure from the jockey in the straight and responding in an encouraging performance. He’s certainly got nice enough NSW form as a colt - he was 1.3L off Overpass on debut, 3.29L off Profondo and more recently 3rd to Hoover Lucy and Castlereagh Kid. An $80K purchase at the 2021 Inglis November Online Sales, he’s got more than enough credentials for a VIC country maiden first up as a gelding.

*since ran 3rd in a Jun 9 jump out to Anirishman and Timson*

The resuming #9 WATER BOMBER was the pick of those in Heat 6 on May 30, finishing 2nd to the un-raced Mishima after following him throughout the run and cruising to the line relatively untouched. He’s had the 3x career runs for a 3rd and 2x 4th’s with some nice enough form surrounding Brereton (from debut) as well as Merchant Prince and Sir Bailey in his next two runs, which is nice enough 2yo form. One to keep an eye out for another jump out prior to resuming.

*since ran 2nd to Roaring Miss (who ran 2nd first up at Moe on Thursday) in a Jun 14 jump out

BALLARAT - Race 2

OTHER

#7 RED HAWK who won by 6L on debut but then failed up the straight at Flemington in his second career start when a $2.10 SP favourite. He’s now had the ultimate gear change of becoming a gelding and looks to be in good order (again) ahead of his resumption, winning a May 24 jump out prior to his win in Heat 7 on Jun 2 where he really hit the line with pace. Huge watch first up as a gelding if he can re-capture his 6L debut form…

Confidence - Comments

Ballarat, Race 1

It's a 2-horse race between our two runners.

#2 FINANCE HARLEM (9) - T Dabernig

Medium.

He's our on top selection - he's been gelded and has the form on the board - the $2.70 looks nice.

#9 WATER BOMBER (6) - M Price & M Kent Jnr

Low/Medium.

He's 2YO against the older horses - the latest jump out behind Roaring Miss (who then ran 2nd at Moe) was only fair - couldn't take ~$1.65 about him - will wait and use him as a saver bet to Finance Harlem.

Ballarat, Race 2

#3 KING TOMMY (5) - M Ellerton

High. - SCRATCHED AT THE GATES.

Should be winning this - beat Allegorical and Tequila Spirit very comfortably in that Jun 10 JO. Happy to bet, was happy to take the $3+.

Ballarat, Race 8

#7 RED HAWK (6) - T & C McEvoy

Medium.

He's been gelded and if he runs to his debut run, he should just win this. JO's suggest he is and the McEvoy's always go well at Ballarat Synthetic (won 6 of their past 12) - he should be hard to beat here. Hopefully we can get ~$3+ late.
