Please see below for our #BlackBook runner comments for Friday, 16 July 2021. The runner's highlighted are our #BlackBook runners (the key runners of focus), while those included in the 'other' section of each race are additional runner's that have jumped out well enough to be worth noting. All NSW #BlackBook runners are 'other' runners.
GEELONG - Race 3
#1 DEEL BLASTER (4) - M Laurie
Was a fan of DEEL BLASTER last preparation as a colt, featuring in our review where we noted he was a half-brother to Bumper Blast. He was unlucky on debut before going to QLD where he wasn’t anything special. He returns to VIC now as a gelding and after his ‘track gallop’ jump out on Jun 24, his win on Heat 12 on Jul 7 was super and the bit of work we wanted to see to be confident he’s return in good order. Following, think he is better than maiden grade at the very least.
#11 SANDY PRINCE (5) - B & JD Hayes
SANDY PRINCE’s debut 2nd to Saif reads well now, with that runner going on to be 2nd in a Group 2 next start and then winning a Group 3. He was then 2nd second up as well before being sent to the paddock. Believe he has been gelded now, returning in nice order to finish 2nd in Heat 10 on Jul 2 as he looked to move really well under minimal pressure and was in front past the line. Watch for another jump out, he looks to have returned well as a gelding though.
We wanted to see another bit of work after a Jul 2 jump out and this is the kind of work we wanted to see. SANDY PRINCE (yellow) jumped cleanly to take up the lead in Heat 9 on Jul 9 before kicking away around the bend to put up 2-3L on the field quite easily. He’s clocked the second fastest grass time of the morning in the process and really hit the line hard. He’s got good handy form as it is, keen to follow him into his first up run.
OTHER
#8 THE GARDEN cruised to the line in his return, finishing 4th in Heat 3 on Jun 28. He was smashed in betting on debut but raced wide without cover before finishing 3rd - one to keep an eye on.
Backing SANDY PRINCE and saving on DEEL BLASTER - top picks. THE GARDEN probably next
GEELONG - Race 4
OTHER
#16 RUMBLEINTHEJUNGLE actually put in a nice performance as he took out Heat 3 on Jul 6. The worry is his form having debuted in a Picnic Maiden and failing to win whilst not starting shorter than $41 in his four subsequent starts with a best finish of a 2.4L 5th when leading. He might be improved in a low rated maiden on the synthetic?
MR BRIGHTSIDE is going to be very hard to beat - he was a #BlackBook runner first up but hasn't been included here due to him being ~$1.50.
Have a very (very) small, low confidence bet on RUMBLEINTHEJUNGLE. Wanted to see a synthetic meeting instead.
