MOONEE VALLEY - Race 1
#2 GIRELLO (3) - M Kent
Michael Kent has a few un-raced gallopers going well at the jump outs and his 3yo REWARD FOR EFFORT x MRS TANGLES colt was no different, taking out Heat 10 on Nov 8 where he looked to be a really nice mover as he went past the talented Abseiler down the outside of the track. This was his third jump out now, following Oct 11 and Oct 25 (behind Xtra Gear) jump outs where he looks to have a nice, big action and we’re keen to follow him into his debut.
The Michael Kent trained REWARD FOR EFFORT x MRS TANGLES had a 9-week freshen up after being a Star Performer and previous feature for us. He returned to finish a quiet 3rd in Heat 8 on Jan 10, where he was very quietly ridden along the inside and looked to move really smoothly. He looks talented and keen to see where he goes on debut.
Previously mentioned in our reviews under his breeding Reward For Effort x Mrs Tangles, he’s now been gelded and named, finishing 5th in Heat 8 on Feb 1 under GIRELLO. He just had a quiet well-held jump out here, cruising throughout under a strong hold midfield while some more exposed gallopers in Extreme Warrior and Prix De Turn took the heat out. Huge watch on this 3yo (now) gelding, he looks to be a really nice mover.
#5 PLAGIARIZED (4) - C Waller
PLAGIARIZED was a $1.8m purchase from the 2020 Magic Millions sale, being by Exceed And Excel out of the mare Platelet, a dual Group 1 winner over 1200m. Previously with the Hawkes yard, presumably as a colt, the 3yo gelding is now with Chris Waller with his win in Heat 8 on Jan 10 being a nice return jump out as he gears up for his debut. He led throughout here and travelled smoothly under a strong hold. He looks a smooth mover.
PLAGIARIZED was not out of place in Heat 11 on Jan 25, finishing 2nd to the talented Spirit Of Gaylord and just in front of the also talented Euro Dandy, a nice effort considering he travelled wide throughout and was still able to stick on and close well. As mentioned after his Jan 10 jump out, he was a $1.8m purchase from the 2020 Magic Millions sale and looks to have some talent. It’s worth noting that D Oliver was in the saddle here so it’ll be interesting to see if he sticks on debut. Regardless, he’s one to follow and watch on debut as he looks to be travelling super and can certainly go well in a maiden.
OUR THOUGHTS
Moonee Valley, Race 1 - GIRELLO
Have quite a high opinion of GIRELLO - loved his jump outs in Oct & Nov last year, he then had a 9-week let up and returned for another jump out (Zerelle since 1st in a BM64) before a 3-week freshen up and another jump out behind Extreme Warrior and Prix De Turn. It says he was gelded in the freshen up, but suspect he may have been gelded during the longer let up. He was entered in for a trial on Monday at Cranbourne but scratched, electing to debut here instead.
He looks to be a really nice mover and like that he's been gelded after some super jump outs, so he has probably switch on even more. Barrier 2 is lovely, just slightly worried about Jackie Beriman being on board but she is Michael Kent's main rider.
Handy maiden to debut in with MATAO MA unlucky to not yet break the maiden while a potentially smart PLAGIARIZED is on debut here with D Oliver booked to ride (as we also are following) having had bilateral humeral stress fractures previously in his short career.
Happy to have a small play on GIRELLO despite it being a tough race. He potentially drifts from the price so look to play 50/50 on fixed (~$8) and Betfair SP.
We have a Bonus Back offer with UniBet for GIRELLO, who will give us up to $50 back in bonus bets if he comes 2nd or 3rd - you can bet here.
OUR BETS
As a rule of thumb, our new 'units' system will be based on the following staking plan:
0.25 units is a speculation ('spec') bet at a bigger price.
0.50 units to 1.00 units is a low confidence bet.
1.00 units to 2.00 units is a medium confidence bet.
2.00 units to 3.00 units is a high confidence bet.
5.00 units is the maximum bet and is a 'special', or a very high confidence bet.
In addition, we'll put more of an emphasis on our highlighted runners (medium to high confidence bets) and lower bets on our 'Other' runners (low confidence). This is because the highlighted runners are striking at much more favourable 31% WIN & 62% PLC since August 2020 for 600+ runners.
We recommend you have a TAB, TopSport (click here), Bet365 and Betfair account.
Total outlay is 1.00 units.
